October is International AAC Awareness Month. A time to recognize and celebrate all the ways people communicate, while raising understanding, promoting inclusion, and affirming the rights of AAC users. At ITNC, we value and celebrate all forms of communication—spoken words, sign language, AAC devices, choice cards, eye gaze, and more. Everyone deserves the right to express themselves in the way that works best for them.
This month and always, we affirm the rights of AAC users to be heard, respected, and supported. That means listening deeply, learning from lived experiences, and amplifying the voices of the disability community.
In this video titled “See Me”, originally created for our Annual Summer Showcase, you’ll see a variety of communication styles represented, each one a powerful expression of identity and connection. We are proud to stand for inclusion and invite you to join us in honoring every way people communicate.
ITNC was recently invited to formally submit this “See Me” to the Arc of Larimer County’s 13th Annual Film Festival on September 19th. We were honored to be co-awarded the Grand Prize with some other fantastic submissions from area organizations.
If you have never attended the Arc’s Film Festival in the past, we would HIGHLY recommend that you prioritize attending in the future. This event shares video submissions from local participants, as well as from around the world. There are some videos that are funny, some that are serious, but all of them have powerful messages of inclusion and advocacy. We hope that you will check it out.
Thank you to all the communicators who contributed their words and voices to this project.
