October is International AAC Awareness Month. A time to recognize and celebrate all the ways people communicate, while raising understanding, promoting inclusion, and affirming the rights of AAC users. At ITNC, we value and celebrate all forms of communication—spoken words, sign language, AAC devices, choice cards, eye gaze, and more. Everyone deserves the right to express themselves in the way that works best for them.

This month and always, we affirm the rights of AAC users to be heard, respected, and supported. That means listening deeply, learning from lived experiences, and amplifying the voices of the disability community.

In this video titled “See Me”, originally created for our Annual Summer Showcase, you’ll see a variety of communication styles represented, each one a powerful expression of identity and connection. We are proud to stand for inclusion and invite you to join us in honoring every way people communicate.

ITNC was recently invited to formally submit this “See Me” to the Arc of Larimer County’s 13th Annual Film Festival on September 19th. We were honored to be co-awarded the Grand Prize with some other fantastic submissions from area organizations.

If you have never attended the Arc’s Film Festival in the past, we would HIGHLY recommend that you prioritize attending in the future. This event shares video submissions from local participants, as well as from around the world. There are some videos that are funny, some that are serious, but all of them have powerful messages of inclusion and advocacy. We hope that you will check it out.

Thank you to all the communicators who contributed their words and voices to this project.

Chloe is originally from Maine, where her involvement in music began with dance, band, and color guard. Through these experiences, she witnessed firsthand the profound impact of shared musical experiences and community, which led her to pursue music therapy. Chloe earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Colorado State University in 2024. She completed her clinical internship at Integrated Therapy of Northern Colorado, where she focused on developing sensory integration techniques in music therapy and neurodiversity affirming practices. Chloe worked in individual settings with children and young adults with developmental disabilities and complex medical needs, where she continued to develop a person-centered approach. She strives to create personalized, engaging, and enjoyable musical experiences that promote autonomy, growth, and self-expression. Chloe is excited to return to the ITNC team! Outside of music therapy, Chloe teaches dance and enjoys relaxing with her cat, Blue!

Happy 4-Year ITNC Anniversary, Yu-Hsin!
We cannot say enough about how much Yu-Hsin brings to ITNC. She provides a sense of calm to the clinic, her clients, and their families– yet she also knows how to have FUN! Her ability to balance the two is just one of the many reasons she is such an incredible therapist. Yu-Hsin skillfully uses the elements of music to help her clients make meaningful progress in their therapeutic journeys, often without them even realizing it. She is also a wonderful listener who creates space for everyone to feel heard, encouraging others with grace and compassion. As a vital member of the ITNC team, Yu-Hsin is always ready to jump in and support the next big idea. We deeply appreciate the care and dedication she shows not only to her clients and their families but also to her colleagues. Yu-Hsin is truly a joy to know and work with. Thank you for everything you’ve contributed over the past four years- we are so grateful you’re here!

Our very own ITNC therapist, Mary, has piloted Beats Without Barriers™, a new program under our non-profit partner, Foundation for Accessible Music. And we need YOUR help! Foundation for Accessible Music is currently running a funding campaign to grow and expand this program. We have just two weeks left to reach our goal of $10,000–and we’re already 70% of the way there! Donations will support musicians, venues, and accessibility measures like equipment, and sensory-friendly tools, while also funding staff training, outreach, and support from self-advocates and specialists. Every contribution helps us create inclusive, accessible music experiences for all and build the foundation for a sustainable program.

Link here https://www.foundationforaccessiblemusic.org/beats. More details about the program are below and on the Beats Without Barriers Instagram.

Beats Without Barriers is dedicated to creating inclusive, accessible live music experiences for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Through partnerships with artists, venues, and communities, we support sensory, social, and physical access needs to provide a concert experience where all individuals can feel comfortable, included, and valued.

In July, Beats Without Barriers launched the program at the Mishawaka Amphitheater with the California Honeydrops it was a HUGE success and well received by the venue, band and most importantly the participants.

Help support this program and be a part of making the joy of live music accessible to EVERY BODY.

This month we are featuring William in our client spotlight series! William is a budding musician, concentrating his efforts on learning to play piano with aspirations of composing original music. In music therapy, William is working toward these goals through adaptive piano lessons focusing on supporting regulation and communicating his thoughts and ideas. He was recently able to showcase his work toward these goals in ITNC’s Summer Showcase Spectacular, which featured an original poem and William’s first piano composition, “I Am.” William spent several weeks perfecting this composition, orchestrating percussion, and thoughtfully selecting images and sound effects to reflect the greater meaning of this piece. William’s creativity, eagerness to learn, and thoughtfulness will serve him well in his pursuit of music, and we can’t wait to hear what he creates next!

Happy ITNC Anniversary to Mary! We are thrilled to celebrate Mary’s 5 year anniversary with ITNC! Mary is a great music therapist who continually goes above and beyond to support her clients and inspire progress through music therapy. In addition to her clinical work, Mary wears many hats at ITNC. As our social media coordinator, she not only highlights the amazing things happening within our organization but also uses that platform to advocate for the disability community and to share music therapy resources with fellow therapists and students. Mary has also been a driving force behind much of the innovative programming at ITNC, bringing her creativity and passion for accessible music experiences to the wider community. Thank you, Mary, for your dedication, heart, and vision. ITNC is grateful to have you on our team!

This summer, our ITNC therapist Caroline had the wonderful opportunity to bring music to Playcrafters Kids Summer Camps. We are grateful for this partnership and love seeing all the amazing work Playcrafters is doing. Check out what Caroline had to say about her experience this summer–

“It was a summer full of joyful music making while supporting Playcrafter Kids Summer Camp through music enrichment. Each week, I worked with campers in the 4-5 age group as well as the 6-10 age group while focusing on music making for social skills, emotional development, building confidence, and expression. Each week, the campers learned original songs based on the week’s camp theme which they then performed live at a Friday performance for friends and family. Playcrafter Kid’s creative arts model and play-based approach makes the partnership with music therapy a natural and powerful collaboration!”

Thank you again, Playcrafters, for such an awesome summer!
