Body Balance Wellness Studio

Body Balance Wellness Studio Just a man. In today's medical world, symptoms get more attention than the person experiencing those symptoms.

We know that it is critical to recognize the whole person to achieve healing. The functional medicine approach we take in dealing with underlying disease and dysfunction starts with understanding the unique biology and chemistry of the person, in addition to their story. We want people to understand that they are more than their symptoms. Those symptoms are red flags, but only part of the story - like the tip of an iceberg. We work with our patients to discover the intricacies and largely ignored aspects of health including inflammation, hormones, gut dysbiosis, and simple nutrition. Dr. Martin's approach to healthcare involves first listening to the patient's story which often reveals many of the reasons for the dysfunction. Secondly, we use thorough testing beyond what is offered by most healthcare practitioners. Conditions We Commonly Support (without the use of medication)

*Thyroid*
Many women on thyroid medication continue to experience the symptoms of thyroid dysfunction (fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, etc.). We use objective data to understand what is happening with each patient and tailor a program to meet their specific needs.

*Diabetes*
People with diabetes are often frustrated with the drug after drug approach to their condition. What if diabetes was more than just high blood sugar? We take an individualized approach to support your unique condition in regaining your health.

*Autoimmune*
Every autoimmune disorder has one thing in common: the body mistakenly attacks its own healthy cells. We believe the body restores itself once irritants are removed. We work with those affected by many types of AI disorders, including Hashimotos, Graves, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and more.

Have you been struggling with brain fog, anxiety, chronic fatigue, unexplained symptoms, blood sugar crashes, autoimmune flares, or neurological concerns?

You’re not imagining it—and you’re not alone.

Some lab markers, like GAD65 antibodies, can reflect immune activity involving the pancreas and nervous system and may sometimes appear years before a diagnosis of conditions such as Type 1 diabetes, LADA (latent autoimmune diabetes in adults), or neurological autoimmunity.

This carousel breaks down:

• What the GAD65 antibody test measures
• How results are commonly interpreted
• Why symptoms and full clinical context matter
• The difference between risk markers and diagnosis
• Why “normal” labs don’t always mean nothing is happening

Many people searching for answers are told their symptoms are “just stress” while dealing with things like:

• Brain fog
• Severe anxiety
• Blood sugar instability
• Chronic fatigue
• Autoimmune symptoms
• Neurological symptoms
• Inflammation
• Digestive issues
• Hormone imbalances

Education helps you ask better questions and advocate more confidently for your health. These slides are for awareness and understanding, not self-diagnosis. Always review labs with a qualified healthcare professional who can interpret results in full context.

If you feel like you’re doing “all the right things” but your body still isn’t healing, chronic stress may be keeping you stuck in survival mode. That cumulative “wear and tear” has a name: allostatic load.

When stress stays high, cortisol keeps prioritizing immediate survival—often at the expense of repair: immune changes (and slower healing), more inflammation, tissue breakdown, and disrupted blood sugar regulation.

This is why I care about balance, not just one number. DHEA-S can act like a protective counterweight with immune-supportive and anti-glucocorticoid effects, so the cortisol:DHEA-S ratio can be a more informative “stress load” snapshot than either hormone alone. Healing starts when regulation comes first.

Cortisol is your body’s stress accelerator 🚗💨

It flips on fight-or-flight, releases quick energy, and even temporarily tones down immunity so you can “get through it.”

DHEA is the buffer 🛡️

It helps counter cortisol’s wear-and-tear, protects tissues, and supports immune balance—especially when stress sticks around.

That’s why the cortisol : DHEA ratio matters.

High cortisol + low DHEA can look like a body stuck in survival mode: more inflammation, more breakdown, and mood that feels… off.

Ever wondered why some people seem to handle pressure with ease while others feel like they are completely falling apart? It turns out the difference often isn't just about mindset, but rather physiology. Specifically, your ability to manage tension is linked to your DHEA to cortisol ratio, where DHEA acts as a protective hormone against the more destructive effects of stress-based hormones.

When you don’t have enough DHEA, your body lacks the shielding it needs to stay balanced. This deficiency can lead to significant physical, hormonal, or neurological issues because your system is more vulnerable to the impact of cortisol. This is why some people can remain functional under heavy pressure, while others are completely wiped out by even the smallest stressors.

Because of these physiological factors, simply telling someone to "reduce stress" is often a disservice that ignores the underlying biology. To truly handle life's challenges, it is essential to support the body’s internal defenses so you aren't left unprotected.

You can think of DHEA as a suit of armor; two people might be facing the same battle, but the one without the armor will naturally sustain more damage regardless of how "tough" they try to be.

If you’re working to lower fasting glucose, improve insulin sensitivity, and get cholesterol, triglycerides, and inflammation into a healthier range, bėrbėrinė is just one tool—not the whole plan.

What matters most is how your labs change over time. If those markers aren’t moving in the right direction, bėrbėrinė isn’t truly working for your body, even if the scale changes.

Use supplements to support a data-driven plan, not replace it. Partner with a clinician who will track your labs and personalize your protocol for long-term metabolic health.

A little boy who had a severe sugar allergy...

I remember as a 10 year old boy being unable to eat most processed food, absolutely no candy and sweets, and requiring ample levels of protein to offset the guaranteed migraine and nausea. If I indulged, a minimum sentence of light sensitive headaches would be the penance, or even worse, violent vomiting to expel the sweet poison.

As a young adult, I knew my path, and had embraced the work and discipline of bodybuilding, and nutrition. Chiropractic was the perfect fit to my physical, and philosophical points of view on health. It also gave me the desire to keep seeking health in its many facets.

I began learning the functional medicine approach to bio-individuality in dis-ease processes. This was awe-inspiring and added another layer of dimension to patient success and zest for life outcomes. This created even more potential for me to help people in an equally subjective and objective manner, meaning, patients feel the improvements, but can also validate them via testing. That’s what we are all pursuing, after all. More happiness, or sustained happiness. Pleasure and peace, congruence between our mind and heart. The work is never done, might as well whistle while you work!
