Do you know the impact your stress has on your hormones? The impact of stress can be significant and affect many organ systems, but there are 3 hormones that I see impacted by stress in patients every day: thyroid (reverseT3),DHEA-S, insulin.

None of these hormone abnormalities are specific for stress, but if I start to see PATTERNS and trends, and if a woman’s history suggests increased stress, I will likely see some hormone disruptions.

Worth mentioning is that these hormones may also be in the “normal” range, but if their pattern suggests that they are not OPTIMAL, I’m suspicious stress may be having an influence.

These are often the reasons we don’t feel better with HRT or thyroid medication, or we become resistant to weight loss.

First of all, sorry about my roosters in the background. We have six. 😳

Second, watch this to learn why providers have been trained to UNDER DOSE women taking HRT. We should not be under-dosing women just as much as we should not be overdosing them with estradiol.

Test hormones in perimenopause? Conventional medicine says “no”. However, if we look strategically at hormone levels — looking for patterns (MORE than just looking for the “normal” range) — we have a better understanding of where to focus treatment.

Perimenopause is more than fluctuating estradiol levels and inconsistent ovulation. Patterns of s*x hormones influence cortisol, thyroid, and insulin levels, and the relationships become stronger when these systems are dysregulated.

Symptoms of perimenopause are non-specific. This means we can’t know for sure if the symptoms are exclusively due to low follicle count, or if another hormone pattern is contributing. Testing matters, but the data is only as good as the provider’s ability to analyze it. Until we have standard training and treatment protocols, hormone testing will not likely be universally recommended. Perimenopause management will be controversial for many more years. But, it is my humble opinion, that testing hormones is important!

I am disappointed in the food industry, one again! This company is misleading consumers to believe their food is “natural” and healthy.

There are many options if your pharmacy tells you that your estradiol patch is on back order! Do not panic!

Do you know what type of magnesium you need?

Are you looking for a Perimenopause or Menopause specialist? Here are the THREE things I would look for:

✅Experience!! This is number one! Hormones are tricky — it takes a lot of practice to learn what’s likely to work and to personalize your treatment plan. Look for at least 10 years of experience with prescribing hormones!

✅Testing! If you are not offered testing or told “it doesn’t matter”, the provider likely doesn’t know what they are looking for. For hormone levels, being in the “normal” range is not good enough. Providers who offer DUTCH testing have the highest understanding of hormones.

✅Options. Hormones are never a one-size-fits all. It takes different routes of hormone administration to achieve the safest and most effective treatment.

If you find a provider that meets all 3 of these criteria, you are in good hands! Bonus if your provider is a midlife woman 🥰
