Why do I make focaccia? Not because it’s trendy or I saw it on instagram, but because when I was a kid and all the other kids brought in cupcakes for their elementary school birthday, I would bring focaccia. At first other kids thought it was weird, but the next year everyone looked forward to my birthday because of that wonderful tomato bread. It was such a gift to share my culture with my classmates.

When I first moved out west and had to make something for my son’s school party I knew what I wanted to do- and when a neighbor chased my husband back to his truck to see if he had any focaccia left I knew I wanted to share this important part of my culinary life with my community.

I’ll never forget kids showing up at our cowboy camp in Terlingua a few months later at a Dutch oven cooking event, asking if I had any more of the “fluffy pizza bread” that my son had shared with them.

And so with that Anvil and Apron is back at the Alpine Texas Farmer’s Market, Saturday January 16th with some really special Italian treats handcrafted in our homestead kitchen and some wonderful artisan gifts.

We’re also making hot boiled coffee to stave off the winter chill! We have any flavor you want as long as it’s black.

Wow It’s chilly! But cold temps and dry winds aren’t your only winter horse hoof concerns. Winter time can mean exposure to salt or sand mix for your horse.

If you ride on plowed roads or use ice-melt mixes, the hoof can get dried out or irritated.

How Anvil and Apron Farrier Service can help:
* Inspect for chemical dryness or cracking.
* Recommend after-ride rinse routines or protective hoof dressings.

High-desert winters = low humidity + cold weather, which can make hooves brittle and lead to hoof wall flares from split growth

Winter dryness can exaggerate flares and distortions because the hoof becomes less pliable.

How Anvil and Apron Farrier Service can help:
* Carefully remove flares to keep wall integrity.
* Improve hoof balance so cracks don’t travel upward.
