I'm just over here trying to stay hydrated, trying to stay motivated, trying to eat veggies. It's a struggle! For some more, for some less. But I find that when I have a good HABIT, the struggle is less. I need a water habit and a vegetable habit. LOL! Anyone have advice on establishing some good habits? What has worked for you?

What's for dinner?

Oven baked tilapia fillets: spray with olive oil, add seasoning (we love either Tony's or lemon pepper), bake at 400⁰ F for 10-12 minutes.

Before and After

Last time I posted was in January, and we were getting ready for a huge move overseas from Germany back to the States. Now that we're settled in, I have much to share.

Mostly that American food is so delicious but equally bad for you. And I've allowed myself to enjoy it, getting burgers and cheese dip and fried everything. But one thing I HAVE made sure to do is eat smaller portions.

I've eaten healthy when possible. And I've maintained my fitness. So I didn't gain back all 40 lbs that I had lost. But one thing's for sure, I need to up my intake of vegetables.

Reasons #10 and #11 why I wanted to lose weight.

These 2 pics are from this past summer 2021 and spring 2007. I look better now at 40 than I did at 25. But that's not my point, lol. The years between these pictures were... I mean... let's just say I don't have a lot of pictures of me in a bathing suit.

I was a bikini-loving Florida girl growing up. So feeling like I needed to cover up did not sit well with me. 😤 Honestly, no one made me feel that way. It was all me. But I still felt it. And in 2019 it became part of my motivation to get fit.

I'm just being honest. I'm not as vain as this sounds. 😅 But if vanity/looks/etc helped me get healthy, then what can I say? I share all this to encourage others to find what will drive THEM to make that change.

Side note: Losing weight came with some negative side effects as far as looks go. Smaller b***s (I was already a member of the IBTC) and less plump skin on my face and neck a.k.a. wrinkles a.k.a. saggy skin are just a couple things that come to mind. But I'd rather take care of my body and consider myself healthy-beautiful. 😊

Reason #14 I wanted to lose weight: My wedding ring was so tight. 💍 It's crazy to think hands gain and lose weight like the rest of our bodies.

Sometimes, my ring actually hurt when I'd wake up in the morning, so I'd take it off for a few days. I almost got it resized, not even considering that I could "resize" my finger. 💅

You can see that I'm not wearing my wedding ring anymore. Unfortunately, I lost it while snorkeling off the coast of Mallorca, Spain in August. (It was my first time snorkeling... and how AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL & FUN it was!) So, I'm wearing a plain silicone band for now. 👀💎

It's all good though. I still have my husband and my hand and my health. 😊 Here's to new goals in 2022, and having the determination to stick with them! 🎉

I hope you dream big, set goals, make plans, and execute.

I'm in a good mood today. Let's see, it's Friday, Thanksgiving is next week, we have plans with friends all weekend starting with ice skating tonight, and our kids are all happy and healthy. God is good! We have so much to be thankful for, and always plenty to share.

Workout: Beachbody's Let's Get Up
Lunch: meatloaf, sweet potatoes, and collard greens (How it's healthier than in the past: smaller portion, and no rice (which I miss 🤷🏼‍♀️))

Reason #1 I wanted to lose weight: "Trying on clothes was depressing. From standing undressed, looking in the mirror to the clothes looking horrible/showing my fat."

Every. Single. Time. I'd try on clothes, I'd end up upset. Some girls rock their curves. YOU GO GIRL! But me? Not so much. I'd try to hide my shape in loose-fitting tops. But most of the cute outfits I wanted to wear didn't seem to look right on me. It was literally depressing. I'd be so mad at myself by the time I was done.

But in March 2019, I channeled all that anger. I wasn't mad at ME (because dude, I'M AWESOME!), but I was MAD at SOMETHING! Every meal, every workout, I started choosing MYSELF over MY LACK OF SELF CONTROL. I was finally going to look good in clothes dangit! And yes that's vain as heck. But it's what worked. 😏

That's why I made a list of WHY I wanted to lose weight. Cuz I have some reasons - 25 to be exact. And each time I wanted to give up or cheat or take a day off, I'd be like, NOPE, NOT TODAY! TODAY YOU WILL WORK HARD! DO THE WORKOUT, EAT THE APPLE! 😤 GIRLFRIEND, YOU'RE GONNA LOOK SO GOOD!

And today, as I tried on clothes, 40lbs lighter, I was so proud of myself, so thankful to myself, and so dang glad I didn't quit.

Reason #25 I wanted to lose weight: "My arthritis acts up when I am inactive."

I'd take pain pills and muscle relaxers, get massages, and pay $$ for chiropractic help. Nothing fixed the problem, and the problem was BAD. I would be crying on the floor or hunched over, using a walker to get around. 😣 Chronic pain in my back and legs was my reality for YEARS.

Then I started PiYo, the program that changed my life. The strength and flexibility I gained have given me pain-free days. 🤗 When I exercise and stretch, I feel so good; it's truly amazing. And that's why you'll find me doing PiYo well into the future.

Reason #21 I wanted to lose weight: "I wanted to look good in pictures. We had a trip to Italy coming up, and I was determined to workout daily (then started eating healthier) leading up to the trip."

I made a list of my WHY's, and to be completely honest, most of them are vain. (As in, most of them have to do with looking better.) And I'm uncomfortable sharing them because my WHY's don't scream "body positivity" or "self love." 🙈 But if we're honest, I'd like a show of hands... who here doesn't care at all what they look like? Just like I curl my hair sometimes, I put in some hard @$$ work because I want to look my best.

So WHY have a list of WHY's? Because when I don't want to workout, when I don't want to eat healthy... that's when I need to remind myself WHY I am going to do it anyway!

This Reason #21 is what changed my life. (Personally, if I was only doing it for my health, I'd have given up a long time ago. Why? Cuz my health was "okay.") It was the 40lbs of excess fat that made me MAD 😡 and fueled my workouts and made me stick to my nutrition plan when I'd want to eat a BK croissanwich but instead I'd eat the apple I brought with me. 🥴
