Virtual assessment or treatment certainly does not replace in person therapy appointments, especially when it comes to physical therapy.
However, they can be a good adjunct to your care while intermittently seeing someone in person, a substitute if you or your child is sick, if you don’t have access to a therapist near you, or if you have a non-complex condition that doesn’t require hands on work.
In today’s world we have to be careful of those promoting online physical therapy, especially when it comes to pelvic floor conditions.
In my practice, I always screen for appropriateness before booking an official appointment.
For this particular patient, we met in person for the first several appointments and have met virtually the past few sessions and will transition back to in-person if she needs more hands on work.
