💔 “If I stop being this way… will I still be a good person?”

If you’ve always been the helper…
If you feel responsible for how others feel…
If you struggle to say no without guilt…

You’re not alone.
And you’re not broken.

This is the fifth post in our 10-part series on codependency, a pattern rooted in care but often tangled up with fear, guilt, and self-abandonment.

At Tranquil Hearts Therapy, we want you to know:
👉 You can heal from codependency without becoming hard, cold, or selfish
👉 You can stay compassionate and kind without sacrificing yourself
👉 You can be loving and have boundaries

✨ Healing isn’t about giving less love. It’s about learning how to include yourself in the love you so freely give to others.

In therapy, we gently help you:

❤️ Recognize your needs without shame
🛑 Set boundaries without guilt
🗣️ Speak your truth without fear
🌱 Grow your capacity for self-compassion

You don’t have to keep overextending, overgiving, or apologizing for having needs. You deserve rest. You deserve peace. You deserve to come home to yourself, too.

“Why am I like this?”
Why do I avoid conflict?
Why do I feel guilty saying no?
Why do I always put others first, even when it hurts?

If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, this is for you.

At Tranquil Hearts Therapy, we help clients in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Estero trace the roots of codependency, and more often than not, it starts in childhood. This is Part 2 of our 10-part summer series on understanding and healing codependency.

✨ Codependency is learned. It’s shaped. And it usually begins long before adulthood. ✨

If you were a child who had to manage your parent’s emotions, act as the “helper,” or keep the peace to stay safe, that wasn’t your fault. You may have been parentified, a common but painful dynamic where kids are forced to grow up too fast.

You may have been the:
🔹 Hero – the one who kept everything running
🔹 Scapegoat – the one who acted out the pain
🔹 Lost child – the one who disappeared emotionally
🔹 Caretaker – the one who managed everyone’s moods

These roles help us survive. But they can also keep us stuck in people-pleasing, self-abandoning, or living in fear of disappointing others.

💬 As Dr. Nicole LePera puts it: “When we don’t know how to meet our own needs, we turn to others to regulate our emotions.” That’s codependency.

But you don’t have to live like that anymore. Therapy can help you reconnect with your own needs, rewrite the old roles, and reclaim your voice.

"Is it codependency… or am I just caring too much?"

We hear this question all the time at Tranquil Hearts Therapy.

Maybe you’ve been told you’re “too sensitive” or “too selfless.” Maybe you feel guilty when you set a boundary, or you struggle to even know what your needs are anymore.

✨ You’re not selfish. You’re not broken. You’re not too much. ✨
You may just be carrying codependent patterns you learned long ago to survive, connect, or avoid rejection.

This is the first post in our 10-part summer series on understanding and healing codependency, *because real love shouldn’t require abandoning yourself*.

Codependency is more than a relationship issue. It can show up at work, in friendships, in parenting, or even in your faith community. And it often sounds like:

➡️ “If they’re okay, then I’m okay.”
➡️ “I don’t want to cause drama, so I’ll just stay quiet.”
➡️ “I feel selfish when I take care of myself.”

You deserve more than a life built on guilt, people-pleasing, or perfectionism.
You deserve to say: “I matter, too.”

At Tranquil Hearts Therapy, we help clients in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Estero reconnect with their needs, set boundaries without shame, and finally feel at home in their own lives.

Summer doesn’t always bring peace.

It’s often marketed as a season of ease, vacations, long weekends, reunions by the water. But for many of our clients at Tranquil Hearts Therapy in Fort Myers and Cape Coral, summer reopens old wounds.

You may be facing time with family members who don’t respect your boundaries, who trigger childhood roles you’ve worked hard to outgrow, or who still expect you to “keep the peace”, even if it costs you your own.

If you're feeling anxious about travel plans, dreading the group text, or wondering whether it’s okay to say no, we want you to know:

✨ Yes, it’s okay. Saying no isn’t selfish. Setting boundaries isn’t punishment. Choosing yourself isn’t wrong.✨

Boundaries aren’t cold. They are clarity. They protect your energy, your nervous system, and your emotional well-being. Whether you're staying for a short visit or stepping back entirely, you’re allowed to show up in a way that honors who you are now, and not who others want you to be.

At Tranquil Hearts Therapy, we help clients navigate these complex family dynamics with:

🌿 Attachment-based therapy
🌿 Inner child healing
🌿 Codependency recovery
🌿 Narcissistic abuse support
🌿 Christian counseling (by request)

You don’t need permission to protect your peace. You don’t need a perfect reason to rest. You don’t have to abandon yourself just because it’s summer.

Depression doesn’t always look like sadness. Sometimes it looks like exhaustion. Numbness. Overthinking. Canceling plans. Smiling in public and crying alone. If this feels familiar, you are not alone, and you are not broken. You are doing your best to carry something heavy. 💚

At Tranquil Hearts Therapy, we work with people in Fort Myers and surrounding areas who are living with depression, even if they have not called it that yet. Sometimes the fog comes slowly after burnout, loss, or trauma. Other times it has been there for years. Maybe you have tried to push through or stay positive, but still feel disconnected, flat, or lost inside yourself.

✨ You are not weak. You are not lazy. You are not failing. You are hurting, and help is available. ✨

Depression affects your body, your thoughts, your relationships, and your sense of hope. It is not just in your head. It affects your brain, your energy, and your emotional capacity. But depression is treatable, and healing is absolutely possible. With the right support, you can begin to feel like yourself again or maybe even meet yourself for the first time.

Codependency is a subject near and dear to my heart, mostly because I'm a recovering codependent.

Codependency can quietly take over relationships - causing us to lose sight of our own needs, boundaries, and self-worth.

If you find yourself constantly putting others first, struggling to say “no,” or feeling emotionally drained, it might be time to take a step back and reconnect with you. Healing starts with awareness, and professional guidance can make all the difference.

Reach out to Tranquil Hearts Therapy for compassionate, personalized care designed to help you reclaim your identity and build healthier connections. 💚

As parents, we often forget just how deeply our words shape our children’s hearts.

Children, like all of us, are molded by how they’re treated — especially by the ones they trust the most: us.

When our days are filled with constant correction, harsh words, or criticism, we may not notice the quiet damage being done.
We might think we’re helping them “be better,” but in reality, we could be slowly chipping away at their confidence and self-worth.

What they need most isn't perfection — it’s connection.
They need to feel seen, heard, and loved exactly as they are, not just when they meet our expectations.

When we lead with love, patience, and encouragement, they bloom.
They grow into confident little humans who know they are worthy — not because they’re flawless, but because they’re deeply loved.

So choose kindness over criticism.
Choose presence over pressure.
Because one day, they'll reflect how they were raised — and let’s make sure it's with love so strong, they never stop loving themselves… or you. 🤍✨

Hey everyone, my name is Ranita Isaac (RMHCI, IMH26040; under clinical supervision of Angela Hawke, MH19867). I'm a counseling intern therapist in Fort Myers.

Tranquil Hearts Therapy LLC is located on 3900 Broadway, in Fort Myers, Florida.

I've got 2 years of clinical experience working in the mental health field, and I believe in a holistic approach to therapy, considering mulitple aspects of an individual’s life to build a complete picture of who they are. However, I am not limited to these approaches and I believe that therapy is customized to meet the needs of the client.
