Understanding Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) 🩺
CRPS is a neurological condition that can cause intense burning pain, stiffness, swelling,
discoloration, hypersensitivity to temperature or touch, weakness, loss of function, and
changes in hair or nail growth. The pain is often disproportionate to the initial injury.
🔹 Types of CRPS
â—Ź Type I: No direct nerve injury, often triggered by a heart attack, stroke, illness, or other
pathology.
â—Ź Type II: Associated with a confirmed nerve injury.
🔹 What can CRPS look like?

Burning Mouth Syndrome: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) is a complex condition thought to be of neuropathic origin, meaning it arises from nerve dysfunction. It is characterized by burning or tingling sensations in the mouth, lips, and tongue. Other symptoms may include dry mouth, numbness, and impaired taste, though the presentation varies significantly from person to person.
Who is Affected?
BMS affects approximately 2-4% of the population, with women being seven times more likely to develop it than men. It is especially prevalent in postmenopausal women, with most cases occurring between the ages of 50 and 79 years.
Diagnosis
Burning Mouth Syndrome is primarily a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning that other potential causes—such as Sjogren’s syndrome, oral lesions, medication side effects, and systemic diseases—must first be ruled out.
Duration and Prognosis
BMS can persist for months or even years, and in some cases, it may never fully resolve.
Treatment Options
Several classes of medications can be used to treat BMS, including:
âś… Antidepressants
âś… GABAergic medications
âś… Analgesics
âś… Antipsychotics
Additionally, Scrambler Therapy has shown promising clinical success in treating BMS. For best results, modifying or discontinuing certain medications several weeks before therapy may be necessary to achieve lasting relief.

Understanding Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome (AMPS)
Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome (AMPS) is a condition characterized by an abnormal and heightened pain response in the body. This occurs when the nervous system overreacts to pain signals, triggering the autonomic nervous system’s "fight or flight" response.

During this response, the nervous system undergoes changes, including vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), which reduces blood flow to muscles and bones. This lack of circulation can lead to lactic acid buildup, increasing pain and further fueling the pain cycle. As a result, the discomfort becomes amplified, creating a debilitating condition.
What Causes AMPS?
AMPS can develop from various triggers, including:
✔️ Injury or inflammation – Fractures, musculoskeletal injuries, or post-surgical pain can lead to AMPS.
✔️ Inflammatory conditions – Arthritis, tendonitis, myositis, or enthesitis may contribute to its onset.
✔️ Delayed onset – AMPS may appear immediately after an injury or take weeks to develop.
Understanding AMPS is essential for early diagnosis and effective management. If you or someone you know is experiencing unexplained, persistent pain, consult a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and treatment options.

Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neurotoxicity (CIPN)
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral
neurotoxicity (CIPN) is a debilitating side
effect of certain cancer treatments,
affecting the nervous system. The
symptoms often present in a
"stocking-glove" distribution, meaning
they typically begin in the fingers and/or
toes and gradually move up the limbs.
Patients may experience abnormal
sensations such as pain, numbness,
tingling, or burning. These symptoms can
be distressing, and their severity often
correlates with the duration of
chemotherapy treatment.
At-Risk Cancers: Patients undergoing
chemotherapy for breast cancer, colon
cancer, lung cancer, or prostate cancer
may be at a higher risk for developing
CIPN, due to the drugs commonly used
to treat these cancers. The following chemotherapy agents are known to be linked with CIPN:
â—Ź Platinum-based drugs like cisplatin, carboplatin, and oxaliplatin.
â—Ź Taxanes, including paclitaxel (Taxol), docetaxel (Taxotere), and cabazitaxel (Jevtana).
â—Ź Plant alkaloids such as vinblastine (Velban), vincristine (Oncovin), vinorelbine
(Navelbine), and etoposide (VP-16).
Prevalence: Approximately 40% of patients receiving chemotherapy will develop some form of
CIPN. The incidence may vary, often depending on how long it has been since chemotherapy
was completed. Some patients may experience lasting effects for months or even years after
finishing their treatment.
Treatment and Prevention: Although there is no definitive cure for CIPN, certain strategies
may help reduce symptoms or prevent their development:
1. Cryotherapy: Cooling the hands and feet during chemotherapy has been suggested as
a potential way to reduce the risk of CIPN, though more research is needed to confirm its
effectiveness.
2. Scrambler Therapy: This innovative treatment has been shown to significantly reduce
symptoms in a substantial portion of patients. Studies have indicated that Scrambler
Therapy may result in a 50% or greater reduction in symptoms in 40-60% of patients
suffering from CIPN.

Understanding Trigeminal Neuralgia
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a chronic pain condition affecting the trigeminal nerve, also known as cranial nerve V. This nerve has three branches responsible for both sensory and motor functions, playing a crucial role in facial sensation and movement. Each side of the face has its own trigeminal nerve, making this condition potentially unilateral.
Symptoms of TN can vary from person to person due to the nerve's complex structure and functions. The location and severity of pain depend on where the nerve is affected by damage, compression, or irritation.
Common symptoms include:
Facial numbness, tingling, or burning
Sharp, electric shock-like facial pain
Jaw muscle spasms or weakness
Pain triggered by chewing or speaking
Discomfort while brushing teeth
Pain episodes may last from a few seconds to several minutes and can be triggered by routine activities, making daily life challenging for those affected.
Scrambler Therapy is a safe and effective way to treat neuropathic pain which includes trigeminal neuralgia.

Understanding Peripheral Neuropathy: Incidence, Affected Populations, and Impairments

Peripheral neuropathy is a condition resulting from damage to the peripheral nerves, which transmit signals between the central nervous system and the rest of the body. This condition affects millions worldwide, with estimates suggesting that around 2-7% of the general population experiences some form of peripheral neuropathy. The prevalence rises significantly among individuals with certain risk factors, such as diabetes, where nearly 50% of long-term diabetics develop diabetic neuropathy.

Peripheral neuropathy can affect people of all ages but is most common in older adults, particularly those over 50 years old. It also frequently occurs in individuals with diabetes, autoimmune diseases, chronic alcoholism, vitamin deficiencies, infections, and exposure to toxins or chemotherapy drugs.

The impairments caused by peripheral neuropathy vary depending on the type of nerves affected. Sensory nerve damage can lead to numbness, tingling, burning pain, or loss of sensation, increasing the risk of injuries. Motor nerve damage may result in muscle weakness, cramping, and coordination difficulties, sometimes leading to falls or mobility issues.

Since peripheral neuropathy can significantly impact quality of life, early diagnosis and management are essential in minimizing symptoms and preventing further nerve damage.

What is Scrambler Therapy?

Scrambler Therapy is an innovative, non-invasive treatment method designed for individuals dealing with chronic neuropathic and cancer-related pain, especially when other therapies, like drugs or electrical stimulation treatments (such as TENS or spinal cord stimulators), haven’t been effective.

It works by using a technology that transmits “no pain” signals to the brain through electrodes placed on the skin, targeting specific pain-carrying fibers. Unlike TENS, which primarily stimulates A-Beta fibers (to block pain signals from C-fibers), Scrambler Therapy works by stimulating C fibers in a more natural and physiological way. This helps the body interpret pain differently, potentially providing relief for those suffering from difficult-to-treat chronic pain.
