“A doula can GREATLY influence the outcome of a birth (for good or bad!). An amazing doula may be worth more than your provider! You should consider hiring one. She can do a lot to facilitate a better and healthier birth for you and your baby and she should passionately want that for you.

BUT a doula can’t work miracles.

She’s not a magician, a prophet, or Jesus. Hiring a doula is not your guarantee of the perfect birth outcome. Signing that contract means the experience, support, advice, information, and time she is equipped and agrees to give.

⚠️ If you’re choosing a provider who is at odds with your birth plan...

⚠️ If you’re choosing interventions or testing that may compromise your choices...

⚠️ If you’re unwilling to examine your fears or trauma...

⚠️ If you’re expecting her to save you from the work of labor...

⚠️ If you won’t say no to a provider, a nurse, or hospital policy...

⚠️ If you’re expecting her to be your one-stop shop for all your education and research...

⚠️ If your husband isn’t supporting or trusting you...

⚠️ If you’re simply handing your authority and responsibility to her instead of the system...

⚠️ If you can’t set up boundaries with family...

⚠️ If you won’t consider any of her suggestions...

⚠️ If you have very real unavoidable complications...

“But I hired a doula!” isn’t going to fix it.

Even Jesus asks our cooperation and active participation to work in us and change outcomes. A good experienced doula CAN profoundly improve your birth. But she can’t birth for you. She can’t learn for you. She can’t make choices for you. She can’t fix situations outside her control. She can’t guarantee an outcome.

It is incredible joy and honor to be present at a birth. It’s humbling and rewarding when I know I’ve made a difference in a woman’s and baby’s birth and even longterm health. But best outcomes and experiences are when I serve a mother willing to do the work, willing to do the hard things, willing to claim the authority and beautiful birth God has for her.

A doula can do her best to work for Him but she can never ever BE Him.”

Happy Mothers Day to all the amazing mamas I have had the privilege to support becoming mothers. Your power and grit are a force to be reckoned with. I was once asked what my favorite part of birth is, hands down it’s when a mother meets her sweet baby face to face for the first time. Hoping and praying you are enjoying your little blessings today and you are being celebrated as a LIFE GIVER…

My journey to become a midwife began in 2021. I’m so thankful for the precious families that trusted me to serve and learn through their births. My journey has not been linear, or followed a straight line. After my mom’s death, I served a few more families…and have just paused moving forward.

Oddly enough for the past few years, I had this cycle happen where I would go to a birth, get done with the birth, and either someone would end up in the hospital that I was close to, or someone would pass away.

The veil became so thin. Midwives hold the fragile balance in their lives. This teetering fragility of life and joyous celebration when a new soul enters this world.

These past 5 months have been months of grieving and healing, that many midwives don’t get the opportunity to do. My journey to becoming a midwife has given me depths of understanding into the sacrificial lives they lead.

I’m cheering you on from the sidelines my dear midwife friends and sisters. May your hands hold years of wisdom and your heart be strengthened for the call He has on your life. Thank you for the hard work that you do.

Statistically speaking, a doula is the most effective "intervention" you can have in the delivery room.

Research consistently shows that continuous support from a doula can reduce the risk of a primary cesarean by up to 39%.

Happy World Doula Week. Thankful for every family that I have been so privileged to serve. Thankful for every woman who has chosen me to stand beside her as she brings her little one into this earth. Thankful for the knowledge passed down from the doulas and midwives before us. Thankful to see a new generation of young women raising up to take the torch. Thankful for every door the Lord has opened for me to be His hands and feet.

Beautiful morning to welcome a sweet baby into this world. Mom did such an amazing job and I’m once again blessed by the nurses and midwives that I had the pleasure to work alongside of. Although, our nurse knew spinning babies, so I was more hands off and spent more time in prayer for mama/baby.

Each birth asks something different from mom, provider, doula, etc…and when everyone is tuned in and working together…you get to experience birth asks it was intended. Life giving, peaceful, and mama/baby centered ♥️
