Standing Rock Youth making Gainz in South Dakota. Lincoln is an exceptionally talented student athlete! This is a highlight for his academic achievements at SD Governors Camps, a gifted academic camp held annually at University of South Dakota. Lincoln is a talented competitive swimmer, competing for the Aberdeen Swim Club. He has qualified for State Meet in multiple events since joining the sport. During July 2016, in Rapid City, SD, he and 3 teammates broke the state record and were South Dakota State champs in the 200 Medley Relay for M13-14 category. He is currently competing for the 2016-2017 winter season. His future goals are to swim competitively in college and to become a doctor.

From USA Weightlifting:

"There are a number of common myths relating to strength training and flexibility. There is no evidence that strength training reduces flexibility, particularly when full range of motion exercises, such as full squats, are done. In face, there is substantial evidence that full range of motion strength training improves flexibility.

There is also no evidence that flexibility training has any negative effect on strength, unless such training is conducted immediately before maximal weights are lifted. There is evidence that static stretching can reduce the strength and power of muscular contraction for at least several minutes following such exercise. That is why stretching immediately prior to heavy lifting is not advised and flexibility training aimed at increasing one's range of motion is always placed at the end of the workout. Finally, there is no evidence that increases in muscular size will decrease flexibility and cause the athlete to be 'muscle-bound'".

One adaptation to strength training is muscle synergy. What's synergy? Synergy is defined as the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, contributions, etc; synergism.

How does one train to develop muscle synergy? Train with compound, power movements; deadlift, clean & jerk, back squats, sn**ch, plyometrics.

Single joint movements are excellent tools for muscle hypertrophy with the targeted muscle groups but only completing said movements won't help sports performance.

Gainz come in many forms not necessarily from the gym. Brain Gainz from achieving success in the classroom also.

When Tomee Brown walked off stage at Northern State University's graduation Saturday, she was flanked by family and friends congratulating her.

But it was her 10-year-old son, Lincoln, who said the best thing.

"When he hugged me when I came off the stage, I said this will be you one day," Brown said. "Then he said when he comes off the stage, he'll have his Ph.D."

Amazing. I know of a few Native Elders who could give her great Competition. No Excuses.
