The countdown to May is on and I’m excited for National Speech Language Hearing Month. I love having a month dedicated to outreach and education. Even better, two of my clients are getting ready to graduate from services. Their progress has been amazing and it all came from building support into their everyday home and school routines. Proud of their hard work and excited for what’s ahead.

One of my favorite parts of private therapy is working closely with families and seeing real progress. I’ve been helping a child master the tricky R sounds, and his mom came up with a great idea. She added a lighted makeup mirror to his nightly routine so he could really see the ER and OR contrast while practicing. It just takes a minute or two and It worked so well, and he is making huge gains. I love when parents get creative, and this idea was too good not to share.

I will have a few openings for summer speech and language sessions, and I am hoping to connect with families who want their child to keep making progress over the summer. This can be helpful for children who do not qualify for school based ESY as well as students who benefit from extra one on one practice to build skills more quickly. I work on articulation, expressive and receptive language, fluency, and overall communication confidence.
I also work with adults with aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, and other communication changes related to medical or neurological conditions.
I can invoice directly or submit to Blue Cross for reimbursement.
I am starting to plan my summer schedule now, so please reach out soon if you would like to talk about what your child or you might need.

A simple game like “Don’t Break the Ice” can be highly motivating when working on speech and language goals. This student earned a game piece for every sentence generated using target sounds. We got in a ton of repetitions and ended with a quick game and lots of laughs.

I love providing services at local preschools and working with amazing teachers. Check out this activity a teacher set up at Progressive Learning For Children.

The children had a great time hammering golf tees into a pumpkin—a fun, hands-on activity that helps build fine motor skills and confidence.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to partner with such dedicated educators and watch students learn and grow through play.

I had the privilege of joining dedicated speech therapists from RI at the State House, where May was declared as Speech-Language-Hearing Month. Each May RISHA hosts an event at the State house. The event aims to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of speech language pathologists and audiologists. Thank you Senator Hanna Gallo for her commitment as both a senator and a speech language pathologist, and a big shout out to Allan Shaw, the current president of RISHA, for his tireless advocacy.
