I'm currently studying to become certified in equine lymphatic drainage to apply specific lymphatic techniques to horses with chronic progressive lymphedema (CPL), chronic swelling, etc. Below is a message I received from a client today after I left her barn. Her horse had an injury on his right hind gaskin resulting in a puffy like swelling. I applied the lymphatic drainage pumping technique proximal to distal to the right hind leg plus I stimulated the 3 major lymphatic centers while I was massaged him. We also did the SUREFOOT Equine Balance pads after his massage today.

"This was the best I've seen his right hind look ! ( where the old injury is) the puffy area was almost flat! I have no idea, what it was caused from.he had it when I bought him. But today was the best I've ever seen it look, 10 minutes after you left I was shocked, I should have text you a picture. Thank you"

The lymphatic system in the horse is absolutely fascinating! I will start my case studies soon and I'm looking for horses with any kind of chronic swelling or CPL. Let me know if interested or if you know anyone who may be interested in being one of my case studies. Thank you!

Super excited to start my certification training in equine CPL (chronic progressive lymphedema). I will post again when I'm ready to start my case studies and will need at least 5 different horses with CPL

I was given a wonderful opportunity to study the hock of a 15 year old sport pony that was sadly euthanised this week.

He was competing up to March 2024 but was receiving 3- monthly joint injections of steroids. He was retired properly after his last event due to ongoing lameness in his left hock (hind leg). He was a Grand Prix sport pony. I have no idea what it means but I think he was pretty good.

I’m waiting for vet reports but I have the full history as shared by his owner. I also have X-rays from 2021 and 2024.

This is a story to be told. His owner wants you to be informed. Injecting hocks….
Keeping them going…..

For now, I insist on no owner bashing.
To know better we can do better.

Without my dissection of his hock, his story would be buried with him.

The photo is a joint mouse. It’s a historical name for a intra-articular loose body. Its name comes from it seeing to move like a mouse scurrying around the inside of a joint.

This came out of his hock.

Edited to add- I have a lot more to share with you. The hock joint was a mess. This joint mouse was one finding.

I have his feet too and they are amazing.
At last good feet. Well cared for feet.

Edited yo add more info from Plutos owner

Hey All, Lindsey is busy i think but can you please be aware, the pony wasnt injected 2 monthly, it was only a few times with the few years he was with us, previous owners did this 3 times a year to keep him comfortable. he had xrays in 2021, 2023 (i think this was our first xray) and one during his retirement as he had a flare up. Our wonderful vet did tell us that he is likely to need to be retired, we did try to keep him going for the rest of the season - she saw him in feb and the season finishes in March. Our vet did recommend more xrays also but after all the money we had spent and believing the hock was much the same we didnt do this - i want to make sure the wonderful vets that saw Pluto are not blamed for this. I said to Lindsey that we probably did try to push to get him through the last season and that thinking back we shouldnt have, but we all learn dont we. Please remember that our wonderful vets are here to make sure our horses are comfortable and happy and there is to be no blame on them - they advised retirement probably 3 months prior to us retiring him, now we truely know whats inside his hock we feel absolutely devastated we didnt just retire him immediately - but that blame is not on my vet at all! We have learnt so much from this process, and as you can imagine knowing we should have stopped a few months or more sooner plays on our minds - but i dont think we would be the only ones that do this and dont fully understand how bad it really was. Love you Pluto, you were the coolest!!!

Love Jenny Adamson - have been following her for years. In her article she discusses the benefits and incredible value of the walk in hand and under saddle. Too often I witness riders not even hand walk their horse prior to hopping on their back, trotting, cantering and then jumping in less than 5 minutes! If a proper warm up and cool down is not done, I guarantee this will lead to injuries 🐴

Whether rehabbing, starting a horse, bringing back into work, strengthening, correcting posture, working with a senior horse, specific walk exercise will help with all of these scenarios with horses.

A great time and great experience speaking at Equine Affaire Massachusetts last weekend. Thank you Equine Affaire for giving me this wonderful opportunity to speak at a few demos and a lecture on equine massage therapy. I loved the questions audience members asked me, the many people I met and many interested in getting certified in equine massage therapy! I already told Equine Affaire I'd love to return to do more demos again next year. I absolutely love educating people and spreading the word about the incredible benefits of equine massage therapy for your horse.

Thank you Equine Affaire!

I have a feeling Equine Affaire is going to be very well attended this year like it was before Covid. There are going to be some great clinicians like Chris Irwin, Tik Maynard, Sam & Kelly Rettinger who have the most beautiful Percheron draft horses, Kaleigh Marie from Braveheart Beasts, Jochen Schleese saddle fitting expert and many more! Such an honor to be asked to speak and be with these great horse experts that I have looked up to for many years

I'll be doing 3 demos and 1 lecture - it's updated on EA's website - see my demo/lecture schedule below. Hope to see you there!

Saturday 11/9 @ 1 pm - demo - Stretches For Your Horse - in Mallary South Equine Fundamentals Forum

Saturday 11/9 @ 5 pm - demo - What Muscles Are Massaged During an Equine Massage Session - in Mallary North Demo Ring

Sunday 11/10 @ 1 pm - lecture - Does My Horse Really Need a Massage? And What Do I Do First? Massage Therapy or Chiropractic Adjustments? - in Better Living Center Seminar Stage

Sunday 11/10 @ 3 pm - demo - What An Equine Massage Therapist Looks and Feels For When Doing an Equine Massage Evaluation - in Mallary North Demo Ring

Bethany A. Condon, Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist - BAC Equine Massage Therapy

Hello horse owners, riders and trainers, My name is Bethany A. Condon of BAC Equine Massage Therapy based out of Foxboro, Massachusetts and I’m a twice certified equine sports massage therapist earning my first certification in equine sports massage therapy from Equissage New England/New York and earned my second certification also in equine sports massage therapy from Midwest Natural Healing for Animals but with a more detailed focus on equine and rider biomechanics, evaluation of equine conformation, gait analysis and corrective rehabilitative strategies to rehabilitate, rebuild and rebalance the horse. Additionally, I’m currently in myofascial release and cranial sacral therapy training and later kinesiology taping training due to finish by late 2019.

I want to educate horse owners, riders and trainers of every discipline from barrel racers and reiners to hunter jumpers and dressage riders on correct and effective riding biomechanics and how our riding affects our horses conformation and comfort level - the rider affects the horse from the tack we use and shouldn’t use to our riding aids. Massage therapy will improve, lessen and completely eliminate muscle soreness, tightness and injuries but only if done on a regular basis to address specific performance issues or long term issues from years past. Massage therapy for your horse should be part of your horse’s overall wellness plan just as you have a veterinarian, equine dentist, farrier, chiropractor - you should also have an equine massage therapist as the benefits of massage are many for your horse and we want our horses to not only be happy, comfortable and healthy but last well into their senior years! I live in Foxboro, MA and serve eastern & central MA, Cape Cod & the islands and all of RI. Contact me with any questions or to set up an evaluation and first massage for your horse at 617-319-5895 (call or text) or email me at bacmassage77@gmail.com - also check out my website at www.bacequinemassagetherapy.com and be sure to Like and Review my Facebook business page BAC Equine Massage Therpy at https://www.facebook.com/pg/bacequinemassagetherapy/reviews/?ref=page_internal
