I jumped off a cliff. Twice. On Purpose! 🌿✨
If you know me, you know that I'm more of a vacationer than a traveler. I usually have my spa day booked before arriving. I started my Instagram page to document my travels and grew to about 15k, then lost most of the followers due to inactivity during the lockdown.
However, my recent trip to Puerto Rico marked a deliberate effort to break away from the norm and get back to the healing wonders of the natural world. Listen, swimming in natural springs has healing powers! Yes, ! Picture this, an EMDR intensive weekend surrounded by nature, my client won't even need to go far to get to a "safe space".
As part of my pursuit of integrative well-being recently embarked on a mountain and waterfalls hike while in Puerto Rico. Being in the El Younque National Forest transported me back to a little girl. It was a nostalgic overload. The feeling of spending hours at the river, swinging off of vines, and fishing to roast on the makeshift fire was unearthed.
The crisp smell of bamboo trees filled the air and left me feeling more alive and awakened than ever before. For someone who typically gravitates towards 5-star spas and salons during vacations, this was a significant pivot in my approach to wellness retreats.
The adventure unfolded with a leap of faith, quite literally. I found myself standing on the edge of a cliff, hesitating for a moment, and then taking the plunge not once, but twice. The adrenaline rush was unparalleled, and the experience of free-falling into the unknown was both terrifying and liberating.
I can't believe that I spent so much time thinking that my travel lifestyle doesn't go with my profession, okay maybe not as a Clinical Psychotherapist, but it fits right in as a trauma-informed Psychoach who is passionate about helping professional women live happy, integrated, and prospering lives. The highlight was drinking from the natural spring source, too bad I can’t transport water.
Sliding down these cascading natural waterslides, surrounded by nature's symphony, felt like reconnecting with a primal joy I hadn't experienced in years. Each slide was a reminder that stepping into the unknown can lead to incredible moments of bliss. Three hours in the forest felt like 30 minutes, during which I got confirmation that this was what I've always wanted to do!
This is one way to marry my passions; holistic wellbeing, storytelling, and travel. If I aspire to curate meaningful and transformative experiences for others, it's essential to immerse myself fully in the adventures they'll embark upon. This hike was a pivotal step towards understanding the profound impact that nature can have on one's well-being.
The desire to create change might require jumping off cliffs or navigating the unpredictable terrain of life that opens up new dimensions of joy, vitality, and fulfillment. Here's to more adventures, more stepping out, and more living. I can't think of a better way to counter burnout and compassion fatigue.
