Y'all I can't stress how much I recommend DR. Susan Wood
Trust me!! What a professional is all I can say! Her patients well being comes first. I had an issue this morning doing Bear crawls up a hill, tweaked my neck in the process. First thing I did was text her and told her what happened, this is a Saturday morning keep in mind, immeadiately she sends me a text back to tell me what to do.
Guess what!?? The exersise she showed me how to do knocked it out! No more neck tweak! Simply amazing customer service.

New Years Resolution. Do you tend to make a New Years Resolution or not?

I am more of a goal person than resolution...it just feels better to me. Resolution feels like I am doing something wrong that I have to fix. Goal setting excites me to think about what I want to accomplish and how I want to grow for the year.

Working on restoring the Seiza position has be challenging and quite frankly painful to get into‼️ Try sitting on a ball, foam roller, yoga blocks, blanket, etc. to boost yourself up so that you can gradually progress into the position. 👍

👉 Warning: do not try to sit for extended periods of time initially, it can be too aggressive, even a minute or two can feel like a huge stretch and effective!

Easy ways to fit this in:
- Playing on the ground with your children
- Checking your email
- Drinking coffee in the morning (if you normally sit in your couch - sit Seiza for the first couple minutes)

‼️Check out Barry's huge improvement in his squat! 🙌 Even though he was able to get into a deep squat, he was still having knee pain and squatting with compression in his hips and ankles. Doing the , now he is able to squat with a narrow base of support, straight feet, and two beautiful bows demonstrating how much more space he has in his hips and ankles. 😀

Barry is demonstrating the perfect example of what our squat should look like. How far can you squat down with your feet one fist width apart, heels down, and knees out? 🤔

Check out Logan’s huge improvement in his walk‼️ Every time he took a step his heel would snap inwards. This created disharmony between his ankle, knee, and hip. 😲

Now...
1 - Heel is releasing away
(ankle/knee/hip are all moving together in the same direction)
2 - Head over the left foot vs. outside his landing column

Why is this important..
- improved efficiency
- securing innate safety with movement especially as he goes to cut, run, and jump.

▶️ Recently, I had a patient who struggled with chronic neck, upper back, and arm pain down her arm to her ring and pinky fingers. 😮 She had been to several providers, even PT with some improvement but never able to get rid of her pain. 😢 We did a posture correction and started with cervical retraction (chin tucks) with overpressure. She mentioned she had done chin tucks before but never added pressure.

Would you know it…within a few minutes her arm pain and tingling was gone and did not return!

Bolt Squat to Hinge - I always feel my walk improve and better flexibility in my hips after I do this exercise. 👏

⁉️Would you expect your knee to stay loose if you kept it bent for 18 hours a day and never fully straightened it out?

We do this ALL THE TIME with our neck and back and then wonder why these areas get stiff and sore??? 🤔 We hang out in flexion when we sit slouchy, look down at our phone and computer screen, and bend over 1000s of times a day‼️

▶️ Pro Tip:

1 - Use a simple lumbar roll when sitting, look at your phone straight on, and elevate your computer monitor. These are just a couple ways you restore the normal curvature of your spine and reduce stress.

2 - Perform a targeted exercise daily to reverse the stress on the spine. I can teach you this!

Video doesn’t lie and watching Kerry’s landing change has been a fun journey.‼️ She was experiencing bilateral Achilles’ tendonosis and for the MDT clinicians I treated her for her back first without any change.

As you can see, she was landing with a crooked foot which collapsed her arch and sent her knee inward. Now her foot is straight, the inside ankle bone is climbing high, and her knee is creating an outward bow. She is continuing to work on increasing her bow when she lands but I am so proud of her progress and hard work! 💪

Cleaning up her landing enables her to load her joints where they are meant to be loaded reducing the stress on her joints. Added bonus, she is now more efficient and she is securing her joints for injury prevention.

THE BEST PART: She no longer wakes up with pain and tightness in her Achilles’, she is able to walk and run without pain and she is now training for a half marathon! Very impressive! 😊

I am soooo proud of John! He has come a long way in his recovery after a car accident to resuming normal life without his neck getting in the way‼️We tackled pain, stiffness, headaches, dizziness and feeling off balance, and inability to work or attend school. Getting my landing down with running has taken some work and I am finally seeing some the fruit of this work! 👏

The top photo was taken a little over 2 months ago, as you can see my left foot is landing crooked created a collapsed arch setting off a cascade of events all the way up my leg. My inside ankle bone is starting to drop, my knee is straight, and my opposite hip drops excessively. This form can make you more injury prone and is less efficient. 😞

The bottom photo you can see my foot is landing straight, my inside ankle bone is climbing high allowing my leg to create an outward bow position, and my opposite hip is not dropping excessively. This positioning not not feels better while I run but makes me faster, more efficient, and most importantly less injury prone. 🎉

I continue to work on my movement deficits daily in order to maintain the gains I have made. If you want to decrease your risk of injury and improve your efficiency with your walk, run, or sport, then a is perfect for you!

Joe is able to run 🏃, climb stairs and ladders, and sit for long periods of time without pain anymore! He rapidly responded stretching his knee into the direction of extension.

Sometimes all it takes is finding the ONE right direction you need to stretch and move into in order to resolve your symptoms.
