May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of mental health and the need for compassionate, accessible care close to home.
At Johnson Memorial Health, we are proud to be tackling mental health head-on with the opening this year of our new inpatient Behavioral Health Unit. This important addition represents a major investment in the health and well-being of our community and will help ensure patients can receive the care they need right here in Johnson County.
Mental health challenges affect individuals and families from all walks of life, and no one should have to face those struggles alone or travel far from home to get help. We are honored to take this important step forward in expanding local access to behavioral health services and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health care.
Great care starts here...and that includes caring for the mental and emotional well-being of our community.

There could not have been a more meaningful reminder of the impact healthcare workers and first responders have on the lives of others than what happened today at Johnson Memorial Health during National Hospital Week. ❤️
Today, 11-year-old Jordyn and his family returned to JMH for an emotional reunion with the many people who helped save his life following a serious dirt bike accident in February.
After paramedics transported Jordyn to the hospital, he stopped breathing in the JMH parking lot. Emergency responders and our Emergency Department team immediately sprang into action, resuscitating him before he was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children for advanced care. Jordyn spent more than two weeks on a ventilator at Riley before beginning what has become an incredible recovery.
Today, Jordyn and his family came back to say thank you to Dr. McBride, the JMH Emergency Department staff, nurses and PAs, Bargersville Fire Department, Nineveh Ambulance 101, Johnson County 911 Center, Trafalgar Fire Department, Prince's Lakes Police Department, IU Health LifeLine and the caregivers at Riley Children’s Hospital who all played a role in his journey.
The tears, hugs and smiles shared today were emotional for everyone in the room and served as a powerful example of what National Hospital Week is truly about: people coming together in moments that matter most.
Jordyn, seeing you smiling, laughing and thriving today was the greatest gift we could receive. Thank you for inspiring all of us. 💙
