It was July 17th, 2025.

A beautiful summer day.

Princess, our donor cow, was in heat — and she wanted the WORLD to know. IYKYK.

We gave her pets. We gave her cake. We told her, firmly, that she would not be getting bred.

Princess heard none of it.

She waited. She watched. And the moment the last human turned their back, she went through not one, but TWO fences on a solo mission to find herself a boyfriend.

Thanks to a very active Next Door community and approximately 400 panicked texts, we tracked her every move as she toured the neighboring farms like she was on The Bachelorette. 🌹

She ultimately selected a shorthorn bull. And… she got what she set out for. 🫢😆

Fast forward to TODAY — day 283. It’s Princess’s due date, and we are WAITING! Anxiously and excitedly!

So while we wait, we want to hear from YOU:
heifer or bull calf?

🐄 Holstein markings or shorthorn?

Drop your guesses below — Princess has no regrets 😅

BREAKING: Local veterinarian overtaken by poultry.

Dr. Heather arrived at a routine farm call this morning. She has not left.

Sources close to the situation report the chickens have taken control and are refusing to negotiate.

🐐✨ Attention goat people (and goat-curious people)! ✨🐐

Our very own Dr. Heather is headed to Hatch & gather this Saturday to drop some serious goat knowledge — and we think you should be there!

Whether you’re a seasoned goat wrangler or you just happened upon a picture of a baby goat in a coat 😏 and thought “yes, I need that,” this class is for you!

Dr. Heather will be teaching all things goat — care, health, husbandry, and probably answering the question “why is mine doing THAT?”

🐣 BONUS: The feed store is running a BOGO deal on baby chicks the same day, which means you could leave with more animals than you came with. We support this. We encourage this. We accept zero responsibility for what your spouse says when you get home.

📅 This Saturday | Hatch & Gather | 2pm | https://book.squareup.com/classes/pzkyimzg2ong0x/location/LHGB52F4SY6MF/classDetails/clssch_lzf03yoox8ol2s?dateStart=1777147200

Spaces are limited — grab your spot to meet us and talk all things goat!

Vitamin D is very important for goats!

It allows proper calcium and phosphorus absorption and metabolism. Without adequate D, goats can’t properly utilize dietary calcium regardless of how much they’re consuming.

This makes it directly relevant to conditions we see regularly — milk fever, hypocalcemia in freshening does, and poor bone development in kids.

You may think due to the sun in Colorado we would be safe from Vitamin D deficiency, but many goats seek shade and cover to get away from the heat!

So get out there, goats! Sunbathe! Every single part of you. Or two parts of you 🫢😆

Well. All the bottom teefs. Goats, like all ruminants, do not have top front teef.
