Welcoming a new baby into the family is a beautiful, miraculous, unforgettable experience. It’s also chaotic, stressful, and full of unknowns...

As a postpartum doula, my job is to help ease this transition. I’ll come to your home and make sure you’ve eaten, care for your baby so you can rest, listen to your thoughts and fears, hug you when you need it, fix lunch for you when you’re hungry. I’ll be extra hands to help with older children in your home as they come home from school. Or I can care for your baby so you can have time with your older kids.

My goal is to help your home life be as comfortable and stress free as possible so that you can focus on healing and bonding with your precious newborn. I want to facilitate those special relationships with siblings and the baby. I want to encourage you and your partner in this overwhelming adventure! I want you to be able to soak in those precious moments with the people you love.

You may be asking, what is a birth doula? To put it briefly, my task as a BIRTH DOULA is to fully support you before, during, and after the birth of your baby. I’ll help you create a plan so that your birth can be a more positive experience - full of warmth, intention, and joy. We’ll practice comfort techniques and I’ll teach you things that can minimize discomfort and encourage labor progress.

During labor, I’ll stay by your side. I’ll encourage you. I’ll hold space for you when you need it. I’ll gently remind you of your birth plan. I’ll guide you through each step of the birthing process. I’ll help you adjust to any twist or turns in your birth journey. I’ll celebrate with you when you hold your baby in your arms for the first time!

I’ll make sure you have what you need and help you snuggle up with your little family. Then, I’ll say goodbye so you can love on your baby and bond together.

When you’re settled in at home, I’ll come for a visit! We’ll review your birth experience, talk about your new life as mama, oooh and ahhh over your little one, and celebrate how amazing YOU are!

I can’t even tell you how excited I am to make this announcement! I’ve been training and studying for months and months, and I am so happy to say that I’m a birth and postpartum DOULA!

If we haven’t met, hi! I’m Rachel! I live in Frederick, MD with my husband, my 6-year-old son, two cats, and a very needy, and loveable Yorkie.

I barely knew what a doula was last summer as I stayed with a friend who was in the middle prelabor. I drove her to the hospital and held her hand through contractions, having no idea what I should say or do. I made sure her water bottle was close and lip balm was within reach. I didn’t realize that I was serving as a doula at its most basic level. I was simply caring for my friend as she brought a new life into this world. That’s when I started falling in love with birth work!
