🏠 Affordable housing starts with your voice. Join us at the upcoming Community Housing Forum to share your experiences, shape local solutions, and connect with resources that matter. Let’s build a Frederick where everyone can thrive!

Members of the community are invited to attend an open house on Wednesday, September 24 or Thursday, September 25 to share feedback on the County’s Housing Study and Strategic Plan.

Hosted by the Frederick County Division of Housing, these events will feature interactive stations where people can provide feedback, explore key data points, connect with housing officials and organizations, and learn more about available resources. Both open houses will offer the same content, so attendees can choose the date that works best for them.

💜 September is Infant Mortality Awareness Month and Black Equity is working with the Frederick County Health Department to make things better through the Black Maternal Health Initiative.

💬 In Frederick County, we’re bringing people together to fix this. Community-led workgroups are meeting to talk about better care, more support, and real solutions. Your voice can help make a difference.

📊 Maryland Infant Mortality Overview (2023)

For every 1,000 babies born in Maryland, about 5.5 die before their first birthday. This is a little better than the national average, but still too high.

Did you know that Black babies in Maryland are more than twice as likely to die before turning one compared to babies with the best birth outcomes. This shows a serious gap in health care and support.

Leading causes include:
- Prematurity and low birth weight
- Birth defects
- Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID)
- Maternal health complications

🧠 More Facts from the 2024 March of Dimes Report

- In Maryland, about 1 out of every 10 babies is born too early (before 37 weeks). This is called preterm birth.

- Black parents are 1.4 times more likely to have a baby born early compared to other groups.

- Health problems like high blood pressure and diabetes can make it more likely for babies to be born early or have serious health issues.

That’s not okay. This shows that big changes are needed in how our health systems work.

Happy Birthday to the legendary Ruby Bridges!

At just six years old, Ruby became the first Black child to integrate an all-white elementary school in the South. Walking into that school with courage and grace, she changed history and became a symbol of resilience, justice, and hope.

Today, we honor her bravery, her legacy, and the doors she opened for generations of Black children. 💜

Ruby Bridges reminds us that even the smallest among us can make the biggest impact.
