Every time I’m outside, my mind is consumed by plants. I am obsessed with watching the ground when I’m walking in my neighborhood, through the wooded trails near me, and I even stop to look at the “weeds” in the decorative medians outside the grocery store. I want to meet every tree, bush, and plant that grows near me and remember it when I see it again.
I really love learning about what grows near me, what plants were used medicinally and eaten in the past, and watching the cycle of seasons here in Virginia. I want to share this love and knowledge with anyone willing to listen! So accompany me, if you are interested, on a walk down a portion of the Canal Path in Fredericksburg to see some awesome medicinal and edible herbs, trees, and vines that grow all over the area.
We will start the walk in the small parking lot across from the Friends of the Rappahanock entrance at 11am. I added a map to further clarify the location. Parking in the actual lot is limited, but street parking along the river on Fall Hill is usually available. We will end the walk where the trail hits route 1. Allow about an hour but it may vary. The path is paved and has no inclines, a very easy walk. Feel free to bring a field guide if you have one! This is a completely free event, suitable for all ages.
