Today's workshop on herbalism for kids went really well! We have some lovely families signed up, some real plant lovers 🌱💚. Registration for the July session is still open! We'll be looking at plants that have high levels of volatile oils and making glycerites!

Super excited to have found an amazing space for this workshop at the beautiful Rivers Edge Healing Arts. We will be making a salve to take home, talking about how plants affect our skin, and looking at what I call Parking lot Plants (or common weeds to some). This workshop is great for kids aged 6-16. Limited spaces available.

Super excited about this. I've been dreaming of a kids series on herbalism for a few years now and kept putting it off because...

I didn't know enough,
It wasn't the right time,
It's a lot of effort,
Would anyone even want to,
What would I even talk about or do?

But recently I had idea after idea about it and decided it's time to jump in. It's going to be so much fun!

Each session can be done individually or you can do the whole series. Each will include a kid-friendly hands on herbal activity, a quick lesson on how those herbs can help our bodies, and a plant walk focused on safety and easy to identify plants that fit the theme of the week. I've picked locations that I know have the plants we are looking for, and more. Check out my website and the Wild Walks Series tab to read more about each session.

So if you know someone in the Fredericksburg area with a nature loving little one between the ages of 6 and 16 who might be interested, share this with them! Let's encourage kids to learn more about the nature they are so drawn to. 💚🌻🌳

Fall Shop update! Freshly made Mugwort hydrosol is now available, along with Rose.

My 2L copper still makes small batch, sweet smelling hydrosols with the plants I grow and forage. Also known as floral water, hydrosols are the water and essential oil made from distilling plant matter. Because the EOs are mixed into the water they are diluted and much safer.

Hydrosols make excellent topical products and are great for soothing skin inflammation and irritation. I use the Rose water on my face every night. 🥰 They also make excellent body/linen sprays. (Lavender is my favorite for this.)

Hydrosols can also hold symbolic meaning. They can cleanse, uplift, enhance, fine tune, and empower on a spiritual level.

Currently Available: Rose, Lavender, Yarrow, Pine, Mugwort.

Happy Fall! It used to be that fall would sneak up on me, but now I see it coming. The transition plants like this Autumn olive, goldenrod, and blue mist flower that bloom from late summer to early fall key me in to the sometimes subtle changes in weather. The tulip poplars are starting to yellow, the beeches have dropped their seeds, and the massive growths of summer berries are pulling their energy back into the ground.

Now's the time for harvesting roots, planting roots, and connecting to your roots. Spend time with family, take extra care to reaffirm bonds with loved ones, and prepare for the self reflection that comes with winter.

I adore this time of year 💚💚

When I first brought my capes to the farmers market, I thought they would be too out of place and no one would be interested. I have been pleasantly surprised. I think everyone needs a cape 😊

Soon to be listed on my Etsy site and I hope to have lots of new ones for the next Art in the Park day!

Every time I’m outside, my mind is consumed by plants. I am obsessed with watching the ground when I’m walking in my neighborhood, through the wooded trails near me, and I even stop to look at the “weeds” in the decorative medians outside the grocery store. I want to meet every tree, bush, and plant that grows near me and remember it when I see it again.

I really love learning about what grows near me, what plants were used medicinally and eaten in the past, and watching the cycle of seasons here in Virginia. I want to share this love and knowledge with anyone willing to listen! So accompany me, if you are interested, on a walk down a portion of the Canal Path in Fredericksburg to see some awesome medicinal and edible herbs, trees, and vines that grow all over the area.

We will start the walk in the small parking lot across from the Friends of the Rappahanock entrance at 11am. I added a map to further clarify the location. Parking in the actual lot is limited, but street parking along the river on Fall Hill is usually available. We will end the walk where the trail hits route 1. Allow about an hour but it may vary. The path is paved and has no inclines, a very easy walk. Feel free to bring a field guide if you have one! This is a completely free event, suitable for all ages.
