My mother is a social worker.

When I was young, I thought her clients always came first. Our house felt like a revolving door of foster children. Christmas often included an unexpected guest at the table. We handed out turkeys. We visited local stores asking for toy donations so children in need could have something to open.

She studied for years — twelve in total — to become the professional she is.

Looking back now, I see it differently.

She did all of this without ever sacrificing our upbringing or care. I wanted for nothing. I felt loved. And she quietly instilled in me a presence and compassion I practice today — though it took years for me to fully understand and embrace it.

Today, and always, I celebrate the superpower a social worker brings to the world. 💜

So grateful for the team at Arbor Terrace Monmouth.

A complicated placement — husband needing higher care, wife still independent, with one shared wish: to stay together. Many communities couldn’t accommodate their unique situation.

Victoria went above and beyond to create a personalized plan that honored them both. Today, they’re settled, he’s well cared for, and she remains independent — together, just as they hoped.

Not all dementia looks the same.

Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and Lewy body dementia can show up very differently.

Sometimes it’s memory loss.
Sometimes it’s personality changes.
Sometimes it’s confusion, movement changes, or trouble organizing daily life.

When families tell me, “Something feels off, but I don’t know what I’m seeing,” — this is often why.

Understanding the type helps us respond with more patience, better communication, and safer planning.
