The Adventurous Journey of Cheyenne & Anthony

The Adventurous Journey of Cheyenne & Anthony This page is a form of support for my two children who are Diagnosed with Antley Bixler Syndrome and Scoliosis. Their Journey and Day to Day Lives...

I was blessed to become a Mother to my first child October of 2006 within days the doctor explained that both my son's hips were dislocated and needed to be corrected we were then referred to the Orthopedic dept. at Valley Children's. He tried a funny looking frog sling to try and "guide" his hips back into place. It didn't work, So our surgeon at the time decided Surgery was needed. My son underwent 2 Closed hip reductions and 1 open hip reductions by his 2nd Birthday and was in a half body cast. The Operation worked but only to find out he had Scoliosis pretty bad and needed correcting ASAP. Our surgeon left the practice out of state and we were BLESSED with the our Surgeon to this day. Since then Anthony has Undergone 12 back operations to help correct the curve in his spine. He originally started with a 70+ degree curve and now is sustained at 30+ degree which is a significant improvement. My Son had a lot delays mentally and physically but has blossomed with the wonderful programs he is in. I gave birth 2 years after the birth of my Son to my beautiful Baby girl Cheyenne. Each of my pregnancies worst than the last, Chy was a repeat C-Section because with my son they had found tumors on my ovaries that needed to be removed. Chy came a few weeks early because I had a condition called Preclampsyia where my blood pressure was dangerously high and the only cure is to deliver the baby. When Chy was born they had to put in a breathing tube immediately because she wasn't breathing. I can't even begin to explain the feeling of not being able to hear her cry, the emotions where overwhelming. She was transferred within hours of her birth to Valley Children's NICU so she could have a fighting chance at life. The doctors told me she wasn't going to make it because she was so sick. They told me she had a paralyzed diaphragm, Smoothing of her brain, she had an infection in her blood and several other issues. I stayed by her side everyday for over 2 months when she was finally stable enough to go home on low flow oxygen. It was the happiest day we had accomplished our first battle together. Slowly but surely she started functioning. She has had several obstacles along the way. In 2012 She started seeing the orthopedic surgeon And we got news of another huge obstacle She was diagnosed with Severe Scoliosis her curve was 90+ by then we started putting the pieces together and seeing genetic Specialist who Diagnosed them with a rare genetic syndrome called Antley Bixler Syndrome. Turns out that I and their Biological Father Carry the recessive gene for Antley Bixler Syndrome. When alone is harmless but together we passed it on to Cheyenne and Anthony without even knowing it. Our surgeon tried Casting Chy to try and push back back surgery for Chy to allow her Enough time to gain strength. But her curve got to severe and was pushing on her lungs causing a Carbon Dioxide build up which would eventually suffocate her. We started Prepping her for her surgery and found out she stops breathing 11 times an hour when she sleeps so of course we got it taken are of and she was given a CPAP machine. We also found out she has a hole in heart but that shouldn't cause her any issues. October 2013 she had her first Spinal operation and that was the longest day of my life. They had some complications which required a blood transfusion and some temporary residual damage was done in one leg but just recently she has gotten it back. Her recovery has been lengthy, painful and hard for her she spent a few days in the ICU because of her SpO2 kept dropping but after a little over a week she was finally able to go home. Everyday my babies struggle with things, pain, physical limitations and just being different. But NEVER once have they complained or asked Why me? They are the STRONGEST human beings I have ever met and I thank God everyday for giving me the gift of being their Mommy! Through all the Up's and Down's I wouldn't trade it for the world. They are also the best Big Brother & Sister to their baby Sister Cienna who is Almost 2. Thank you for taking the time to Support my Children.

Do to Covid we haven't been able to see Cheye face to face. Dropped off lunch a few times and talked though the door. But she is safe and healthy. Will be setting up a visit soon. Going to social distance and wear my mask. I'd hate to get her sick. The other children are all well we have been home and the kids miss school. I miss them going to school... But we will all survive this. God bless you all and stay safe.

Hello everyone... well we are on lock-down in California, I hope and pray you all are following instructions from your local and state government officials. schools are all closed and I'm glad the school district closed the schools, I was wondering at what point I would pull the kids out and what kind of trouble Id get myself into by doing it... I usually spend my days alone working around the house or on the car and now I have to find things for the kids to do or telling them to stop this or that. they are starting to get cabin fever. i guess i am too. we have not left the house for 2 weeks and they may not reopen the schools for the rest of the year. this covid-19 has me worried as I'm sure a lot of you are. let us pray this doesn't get as bad as some say. we have our groceries delivered and Amazon has the things we cant find. the kids are playing outside as long as the get some work done on the tablets and computer. their teachers have been sending classwork to do. and we have been watching a lot of movies on the firestick. we are setting up a schedule to video chat with Cheyenne we can not visit with her at this time she has had respiratory problems in the past and we cant get her sick. so we have to adjust and we will.
prayers to you and your families, please stay healthy and we will all get though this one way or another. :)

Hello Everyone... sorry for not posting for bit... so here is some news. all 3 kids are doing really well. Anthony is in 7th grade and not in special ed classes anymore. I wanted him to try regular classes. he has always gotten good grades and I really would like him to graduate and not just complete high school, well he is doing better then i thought 3.5 G.P.A and he loves the challenge. Cheyenne is just as surprising. she is in 6th grade and really engaged in school now she is reading and writing and is focused on school work. this is her best school year she has not been sick so she is not behind in her work. little sister Cienna is in 2nd grade one of the top readers and has a perfect attendance. so all in all things are well.. Anthony will be seeing the surgeon soon and we will know when he will have to have his rods adjusted in his back. ill share as soon as I know... hope everyone reading this is doing well

FAMILY NEWS:
Sorry for not posting sooner have not really posted much on my personal FB page as well... My mom passed in June and I thank her for showing me to be strong though all circumstances. no time to be depressed when you have a house, 2 kids and 6 cats to care for... we had a great summer vacation and the kids are back in school... here is whats new with the kids. Anthony is in 7th grade and at the last IEP i let the school district know id like him to graduate with his class not just complete. so this year he is not in special needs classes. academically he is not far behind and so far he is keeping up 6 A's and 1 B. I spoke with is teachers and they all think he can keep up with the other students. I'm very proud of him. Now Cheyenne has had some really really great things happen she has not been sick in over a year so no trip to the hospital... she is getting around without the wheelchair and around the house no walker, all this movement plus diet has help her loss weight. the best thing is she is not hooked to a machine to help her breathe... we love to go visit her... Cienna is in 2nd Now and doing very well. both her and Anthony only missed 1 day of school last year and she said she is getting perfect attendance this year... keep it up KIDS!

If you are not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel... and dealing with you fam and child care and it never seems to end sorry it never does. it will get easier then something new to deal with. stay strong in between struggles and pray It always works itself out.
