Veterans Book Project The Veterans Book Project is a library of 50 books authored collaboratively between Monica Haller and people experiencing the recent American-led wars.

Many books are by veterans--one is by a mother, another by a brother whose sibling was killed in combat. Other books are by Iraqis--a medical student, a refugee recently arrived in the United States. Each individual book (as a vehicle of history and memory, stable yet mobile) re-deploys volatile images with the aim of re-articulating and refashioning memories. Each book stands alone, first disseminated by its author to his/her community, and then becomes part of the larger VBP library, designed for wide dissemination and reflection through “reading room” installations in museums, galleries, universities, public forums and integrated into libraries. The reading room design is meant to be flexible, adaptable to many galleries, universities and public forums. All books are available to buy online at printing cost at lulu.com. Anyone can exhibit the work. Please contact us to discuss ways to exhibit the VBP. BACKGROUND
Inspired by the process and design of her previous book, "Riley and His Story," artist Monica Haller created the framework to make the library, which includes software and a workshop. With the infrastructure in place, she ran the workshops across the U.S. from 2009 - 2012. The workshop take place over 10 days, a 4-6 participants at each one. While basic setup is stable, then each workshop adapts to the specific community. Inside the workshop authors compile their images and words surrounding their experiences with war in a book of 50 to 300 pages, embedding images into bookmaking software designed by Mark Fox, Matthew Rezac and Monica.
