As National Disability Employment Awareness Month wraps up, we want to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of the people we support and the employers who make these opportunities possible.

Currently, 445 people are succeeding in independent jobs with support from Rise, working for 440 employers across Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Another 266 people are building experience and confidence through our Supported Employment Teams at 53 sites. These employers gain skilled, dedicated employees who strengthen their teams.

We’ve loved sharing stories throughout the month that highlight the talent and dedication of the people we serve. Thank you to Brooklyn Tool for sponsoring this content and to all the employers we partner with who create opportunities for success.

Congratulations to Voua Her, one of our September Champions of the Month!

When Voua joined Rise’s Minnesota Employment Center (MEC) in February 2024 as an Occupational Communication Specialist, he brought with him a passion for improving accessibility for the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing communities.

Since then, Voua has gone above and beyond to support others - advocating for fair pay, celebrating job offers with happy dances, and finding creative ways to help people reach their goals. His compassion and drive have made a lasting impact on both his team and the people he supports in their employment journeys.

“I love that our work adapts to each person,” Voua shared. “The ability to make our own decisions in how we support allows us to truly be person-centered.”

Congratulations to one of our September Champions of the Month, Patrick Vedasto!

Patrick has been a Direct Support Professional at Rise Crystal for three years, and during that time, he has stood out for his compassion, reliability, and caring personality. Before joining Rise, he worked as a finance and leadership professional in Texas, and after returning to Minnesota, he felt called to pursue an opportunity at Rise where he could make a difference in people’s lives.

“One day, I met someone who worked at Rise, and her story inspired me,” Patrick shared. “I said, ‘Please sign me up,’ and the rest is history.”

Patrick’s dedication shines through every day, from supporting the team at Rise Crystal to going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of the people he serves. Patrick’s coworkers believe he exemplifies all three of Rise’s standards of excellence: respect, accountability, and adaptability.

Congratulations, Patrick!

Congratulations to Clint Cordero, one of our 2025 Champions of the Mission!

Clint joined Rise three years ago, bringing his experience as a business owner and hiring manager to his role as an employment consultant. He quickly discovered how rewarding it is to help people overcome obstacles and succeed at work.

Clint’s teammates admire his deep knowledge, steady advice, and ability to pivot gracefully when plans change. As one colleague put it, “Clint adapts to whatever the day brings and always finds a way to get the job done.” For Clint, pride comes from seeing people hold jobs, grow skills, and give their best every day.

Congratulations, Clint - you make our mission come to life every day!

We recently celebrated the conclusion of our Community Connections grant with a special lunch event at the New Brighton Community Center!

This grant brought together people we serve and local seniors through shared activities and meaningful connections, first at the Springbrook YMCA and later at New Brighton. The event featured lunch, live music, and giveaways as we honored the friendships and partnerships built over the past year.

We want to extend a thank-you to our partners who joined us for this event: New Brighton Parks & Recreation, Silverwood Park, Keynote Music Therapy, Chandler Place, Mia Dorr, DJ Didi, and the New Brighton Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPs). We also want to give a special shout-out to Vinnie Rose, who performed music at the celebration and is a favorite among those served at Rise New Brighton!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Rise & Shine Fundraising Breakfast!

We were honored to gather with about 80 guests, including many first-time donors, along with our dedicated partners, supporters, and members of our senior leadership team, to celebrate the exciting work happening at Rise.

Guests enjoyed a delicious breakfast and heard from several speakers, including President & CEO Tim Dickie, who shared program updates, and Board Member Scott Price. Stacie Dziedzic spoke about how Rise supports her in her role at Federal, and Eugene Green III shared his journey as a Food Production Associate at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and his goal of becoming a chef. The morning concluded with a moving reflection from Jill Strobel, who shared how impactful our Life Enrichment program has been for her son, Ryan, and their entire family.

Thank you to those who stepped up to the challenge and donated to support our mission. Your support allows us to continue opening doors to opportunity for people with disabilities and other challenges across Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.

This week's spotlight is on Jordan Rock!

When Jordan joined the Rise crew at Peli BioThermal in Maple Grove back in 2021, it marked the start of an exciting new chapter in his career. After more than a decade of building his skills in a variety of jobs, Jordan was ready for a new challenge, and he is doing great!

In his four years at Peli, Jordan has learned an impressive range of tasks. He started out assembling insulated coolers that help transport critical medical supplies like organ and blood donations. Since then, he’s added packing boxes, palletizing shipments, operating pallet jacks, and handling freight deliveries to his list of skills. Each new responsibility has been another chance for Jordan to show his dedication and attention to detail.

The transition wasn’t without challenges, but Jordan’s determination, along with support from Rise, helped him gain confidence and grow in his role. Today, he’s trusted with more advanced responsibilities, including quality control and labeling products on the conveyor line alongside his Peli teammates.

Jordan’s coworkers and managers say he brings a positive energy that lifts the whole team. His upbeat attitude and strong work ethic make him a valued part of the workplace, and it’s not uncommon for coworkers to playfully debate over who gets to work with him each day!

Jordan’s success is a powerful reminder of how inclusive employment benefits everyone. When people have the opportunity to use their strengths, great things happen.
