I'd like to share a rather unusual, free, aces prevention resource...parenting tips bumper stickers! Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo, CA nonprofit, produces parenting tips bumper stickers and makes them available at no cost to businesses, organizations, clinics, schools, and individuals. There are fifty-one in a set and each bumper sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way to educate everyone about parenting and prevent child abuse five, ten, twenty, fifty years down the road. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

Sets of the stickers can be put in holders and placed on counters and tables so folks can select one or more for their cars. Visit www.advancingparenting.org to order this free resource. Use a computer...our website is not optimized for phones. Please share.

Too Busy! Tuesday - Inflexibility

I no longer have time or energy for inflexibility. Too Busy!

In the past, I thought inflexibility was creating organization and structure for my life. What I learned over time is that it was creating more barriers to the freedom I desired.

I want to hear from you. Have you struggled with inflexibility? If not, what has helped you? If so, what small commitment can you make to yourself?

Too Busy! Tuesday - Not Trying Again

I no longer have the energy or time for giving up on things that I've tried and not trying again. Too Busy!

Too often I have found myself working toward a goal and when things don't go the way I planned, I give up. Not only have a given up, I have sometimes not even tried again. The discouragement from things not going according to the plans can be crippling and lead to inaction.

I can begin using things not working out as information and dats to help me the next go round. I can try again!

I want to hear from you. Can you use things from the past to help you in trying again?

How often do we assume a situation equals stress?

Stress is not innate to a situation. If we put the same situation in front of 10 different people and asked them to rank their level of stress on a scale of 1 to 10, we’d get varying answers. Why?!

Because our stress level of often based on our perception of our ability. There’s value in evaluating what you believe is your ability to deal with, handle, or manage any given situation.

Give yourself a moment to ask and consider, “Am I able to deal with this situation? How do I know I am or am not?”

Perception can change the game!

Too Busy! Tuesday - What Do I Need?

I find myself asking the question lately of "What do I need?" because previously I have been Too Busy!

I find it helpful to be intentional to identify my needs, without feeling the pressure to have all the answers for why I feel a certain way or what caused a certain emotion. I'm choosing to take some time to focus on how I can meet those needs day to day, and moment to moment.

I'd love to hear from you. What is a need you may have right now and how can you get it met? It may be relational, emotional, financial, related to work, or something else.

In May 2021, I scheduled this photo shoot with AIR Designs for the launch of my therapy practice. I was nervous…and also excited…to finally be moving toward working for myself 100%.

Less than a week after the shoot…I hit a hard stop. I found out I wasn’t going to be able to open my practice as planned. I was devastated and felt defeated. I didn’t do any work for several weeks while processing this major loss. Then step in my friends to encourage me, “You WILL open your practice, just not now!”

Fast forward, 1 1/2 months later I took a 5 day challenge on getting paid to speak as a mental health professional with Dr. Kristen Guillory. Little did I know, this challenge would start me on a path to becoming a professional paid speaker.

In the past 12 months I have:
🌟completed a 5 month speaker coaching program (Aug 2021 - Jan 2022)
🌟been able to use photos from the May 2021 shoot for my speaker business
🌟booked over 12 speaking engagements (12 was my goal for 2022)
🌟traveled out of state to speak
🌟completed 2 rounds of my LISTEN Hear! 6 week series
🌟hosted several free & virtual workshops, seminars, and a 3 day challenge
🌟created, charged, and raised my speaker fees
🌟added a team member for admin support
🌟launched a podcast “Too Busy” streaming on 4 major outlets
🌟 planned a parent & teen retreat for October 2022

Most of these things brought up intense feelings of fear and worry yet I’ve decided to push through and do them anyway. People sometimes assume this journey has been and is easy peasy! It’s not! Yet, I’m committed to doing the work I feel called and purposed to do.

Getting the opportunity to influence the lives of my therapy clients, speaking clients, family, friends, and even strangers is such a dream. I do not take any opportunity for granted.

Too Busy! Tuesday - Crippling Fear

I no longer have the energy or time for being crippled by fear. Too Busy!

Too often I have found myself not doing something or not having a conversation because of fear. A friend told me years ago, "If fear is the primary reason you're not doing it, you should reconsider."

This is still a work in progress for me, yet I'm learning how to redistribute that fear into fuel.

I want to hear from you. How have you been impacted by fear?

🚌It's back to school time!! 🚌

How often do you ask your teen, “How are you?” and they say...
Those answers don't really tell you how they are doing.

Try asking one, or multiple, of the following questions instead to spark some additional dialogue.

Let me know how it goes in the comments!

Vacation is an essential for me. I feel rejuvenated and ready for the things that are ahead.

Too Busy! Tuesday - Negative Self-Talk

I no longer have the energy or time for negative self-talk. Too Busy!

I have been so critical, talked poorly to, and talked poorly about...me! Not other people but me. Having such high expectations of myself to the point of looking for perfection has played a role in my belittling of me.

I've learned that talking poorly about and to me is not helpful and actually makes things much worse. As I've learned the importance of kindness to me, I got an opportunity to really live it out just last week with a disappointment I experienced.

I want to hear from you. How do you combat and/or deal with negative self-talk?

No Too Busy! tonight. Check out my stories for a highlight about the communication gap.

I’ll be live tonight for Day 3 of the Bridge the Gap challenge. You can still register to join me at 7:30pm CST. Raffineewilson.com/3daychallenge

Too Busy! Tuesday - Happiness Is...

I no longer have the energy or time for not intentionally feeling and leaning into happiness. Too Busy!

My world was changed when my therapist asked me, "Raffinée, are you happy?" Listen as I share some things I previously thought equaled happiness and ways I now lean into being intentionally happy daily.

I want to hear from you. What can you do to intentionally lean into happiness each day?

Register for the 3 day challenge: raffineewilson.com/3daychallenge

Much of the work I do today is rooted in the gratitude I have for being blessed with the most amazing godparents, mentors, youth leaders, aunts/uncles (biological and chosen), and educators.

They saw greatness in me and, as an adolescent, could often say the same thing my mom was saying but because they weren't her...I would listen.

Beginning this Sunday, July 17th I'll be hosting a 3 day challenge for influential adults of teens. We’ll discuss strategies to bridge the gaps that exist in communication, technology, and emotions. I am committed to supporting adults in creating lasting and healthy connections with the teens in their life.

This challenge is virtual, FREE, and includes replays, as long as you register.

Too Busy! Tuesday - Dismissing Emotions

I no longer have the energy or time for being judgmental or dismissing of my emotions. Too Busy!

Too often I have found myself thinking I “should” feel something different than what I feel. I have also blown off my feelings and minimized them as if they were not true or accurate.

I now choose to draw the information and data my emotions may be trying to give me. Then I can decide what to do with that information.

Ask yourself these questions the next time you feel tempted to judge or dismiss your emotions:
1. What brought on this emotion (if you know)?
2. What information is it trying to give me?
3. What do I want to do with that information?

I want to hear from you. Have you been dismissive or judgmental of your emotional experience?

Too Busy! Tuesday - Making Assumptions

I no longer have the energy or time for making assumptions. Too Busy!

I have been guilty of making assumptions, and asking and answering questions in my own head. Y'all that has caused a lot of issues over the years. I've found such value in challenging my own assumptions, and sometimes looping others into the discussion I'm having in my head.

I want to hear from you. How can you be intentional to minimize assumptions and challenge them when they arise.

Too Busy! Tuesday - Ingratitude (Part 2)

I no longer have the energy or time for ingratitude. Too Busy!

I have found such rich benefits to practicing gratitude through things like journaling and reflecting on that journaling. Research shows that the practice of gratitude is associated with greater happiness.

I want to hear from you. Share in the comments at least one thing you are grateful for and why. If you've been keeping a gratitude log, what do you notice is a common theme or takeaway from reviewing previous entries?

No Too Busy! Tuesday tonight.

I’m going to do something for me before I host Week 6 of my 6 week series! What are you going to do for you?

Too Busy! Tuesday - Missing Out on Moments

I no longer have time or energy for missing out on moments. Too Busy!

Over the past week and weekend I have been intentional to be present and aware of what's going on before me. It's been helpful in centering me the past few days. I've spent so much time not fully present in some moments and some of the moments I will never have the opportunity to get back.

How can you be fully present and not miss out on any moments this week or even just tomorrow? I'd love to hear from you in the comments.
