She weighed in at 6 lbs 5 oz and 19 inches long. She has been tiny ever since. She has many medical and physical challenges that have led to a number of diagnosis. This journey for her is to find out what she is affected by. Sadly, a lot of it is genetic and not going to go away. She has mild to moderate hearing loss, sports induced asthmatic, chronic constipation, tongue tie, short stature classi
fication, low muscle tone, an anxiety disorder, attention deficiency disorder, medical post traumatic disorder, traumatic post traumatic and an adjustment disorder. We are also working on an official diagnosis for all the chronic conditions. We have ruled out cystic fibrosis, Crohn's disease and several food allergies for most of these conditions. all of the diseases listed are ruled out by x-ray, sweat test and blood work. She has been treated by multiple specialists: otolaryngology, audiology, pulmonologist, gastroenterology, endocrinology and three pediatricians. I was changing doctors when they no longer had answers for me for my daughter that weren't repetitive treatments or answers. As of 2021, Syrina has had 11 surgeries to correct her hearing, speech and ability to breathe correctly. We have corrected her tongue and teeth first so she could learn to speak correctly. She has been through multiple rounds of speech therapy, Occupational Therapy and physical therapy. Now we decided that grommets were no longer the answer after 7 sets have been placed to deal with her fluid build up behind her ear drums. This gunk created a muffled environment for sound waves. it would slow down sound waves trying to travel to her cochlear from her ear drum so what she heard was often not what was actually said to her. As of 2022, Surgeries will no longer correct CETD which is what she suffers from. she has had 2 benign tumors removed from her right ear and new ear drum replacement. she has ruptured it four times already. Syrina has grown so much over the last 12 years and has put up with so much. she is now aided after 13 years of pushing for her to have one. she has spent years not being able to hear properly. she has been discharged from Pulmonary medicine and Gastroenterology. we are estactic that is finally showing signs of thriving. Her last well child check has shown she is over the 10% mark for height and weight. she is showing massive gains in the last two years in some many area developmentally. She is showing she is an actual teenager now. she is such a handful and coming into her own personality. She is thriving in school now. she is happier this year even with the constant reminders to behave but then again what teenager doesn't... . As of 2023, Syrina will have 12 surgeries under her belt, she needs another one to remove a recurring cholesteatoma in the attic of her right ear. the little bones in her ear, stapes, malleus and Incus need to be replaced with prosthetics. Her artificial ear drum is being replaced as well. She has been diagnosed with Major Depression now, too. Hopefully with her SSRI she will be okay.
