Every birth doula has a little “starter pack” of essentials that come along to support the birth space. Some items help with comfort during labor, like a yoga ball for movement, a heating pad for soothing relief, and cool washcloths when things get intense. Snacks and water help keep energy up during long hours, while small comforts like essential oils can create a calming environment.

But the most important things a doula brings can’t be packed in a bag. A steady presence, encouragement, and support for the entire family through every stage of birth. ❤️

Welcome to Tidbit Tuesday when Amy and team offer little "tidbits" of wisdom or questions for your consideration. It's a glimpse into Amy's stream of consciousness and an opportunity to dive deeper into understanding yourself, midwifery and the world.

We would love to hear your feedback-post in the comments for respectful discussion.

Taking care of your health isn’t always about doing MORE.

Often, it’s about being intentional with the habits that support your body over time. The little things really do add up. When you stay consistent with the basics (rest, movement, nourishment, and managing stress) you build a foundation that supports you for the long run. 🌿

We’ve been listening to this episode and appreciated hearing Amy named as the midwife in this client’s story.

The conversation beautifully reflects her approach to care—especially her commitment to informed decision-making and honoring client autonomy.

You can hear what it looks like in practice: taking time to ensure clients understand their options, creating space for questions, and supporting decisions without pressure or agenda.

This is the kind of care we believe in—thoughtful, collaborative, and centered on the client.

Take a listen and let us know what resonates with you

One of the beautiful parts of home birth is having the freedom to choose where you labor. You might find comfort in a warm bath in your bathroom, an inflatable tub set up wherever you feel most relaxed, or simply laboring from your bed, a chair, or any part of your home that feels safe and calming as you bring your baby into the world.

There is something truly sacred about welcoming your baby in the comfort of home, held in a space filled with love and the people who matter most.

This beautiful home birth was made even more meaningful with big siblings nearby, witnessing the powerful moment their newest family member entered the world. Sharing that very first hello together creates a bond and memory that lasts a lifetime.

Congratulations to this wonderful family on their newest little one! ❤️

Labor unfolds with a natural rhythm, especially in an unmedicated birth. Rather than something to control, it’s a process the body already knows how to move through, guiding baby into the world step by step.

— Early labor is often slower and more manageable as the body begins opening.
— Active labor brings stronger, more consistent waves as progress builds.
— Transition is the most intense stage but usually the shortest, signaling that baby is almost here.
— Finally comes the pushing stage, when your body works with those waves to deliver your baby.

Understanding these stages can help families feel more grounded, informed, and connected to the natural flow of birth. ❤️

Being a doula means showing up in all the ways that matter. Listening without judgment, staying calm when things feel overwhelming, and supporting not just the birthing person, but the entire family. It’s about sharing knowledge, building confidence, and empowering families to trust themselves through the birth experience.

And of course, celebrating the incredible moment when new life enters the world! 🌎✨
