Scout troop 668 has chosen Estes Cemetery for their Eagle Project. More soon!

Hello, my name is Penn Morris. I’m a Life Scout with Troop 668 in Gainesville and a Lake Kiowa resident. For my Eagle Scout Project, I have selected Estes Cemetery, located just outside the Lake Kiowa gate.

The attached map shows the proposed improvements for my Eagle Scout Project:
• Green: New road and walking path to improve access
• Yellow: Erosion control to protect the grounds
• Blue: A covered carport to provide shade and shelter during services

This Eagle Scout Project will make the cemetery safer, more accessible, and more comfortable for families visiting their loved ones—especially during Texas heat or rainy weather.

The total cost of materials is approximately $7,000. Thanks to generous pledges of support from local businesses, over half of this cost has already been covered. I am now seeking additional donations of materials or financial support to complete my Eagle Scout Project.

For those who wish to contribute by check, checks may be made payable to Estes Cemetery. All contributions go directly toward project materials. The project has been fully approved by Troop 668 and the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Joshua Byers was the Company Commander of Fox Troop in the 2/3ACR service in Iraq in 2003 when an IED struck his Humvee. As the smoke filled the air, Josh gave his driver a last command: “…keep moving forward.” Though Josh didn’t make it home, this command saved lives and became a battle cry for his unit and family. @
