We are committed to making our communities safer and healthier. In an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of prescription drug misuse and importance of safe disposal, we’re joining HCA Healthcare hospitals across the nation for our seventh annual Crush the Crisis Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event, which coincides with the DEAHQ’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, offers the community an opportunity to safely and anonymously dispose of medications that may be unused from previous procedures or other medical visits.

In 2024, HCA Healthcare joined local law enforcement at 125 collection sites to collect and properly dispose of more than 21,000 pounds of unused or expired medications – the equivalent of an estimated 14.5 million doses.

Positively impacting our community takes teamwork. Help us on Saturday, October 25, 2025, by safely and anonymously dropping off your medications at HCA Florida Gainesville Emergency located at 4094 SW 41st Blvd, Gainesville, FL 32608 from 10am-2pm. Learn more: https://bit.ly/46XRusQ.

Today marks the first day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Our operating room team is showing up in a big way to promote yearly screenings for women 45 and older, and to fundraise for breast cancer research. Meet our American Cancer Society Men Wear Pink ambassador for 2025: Angelo Podes, the director of surgical services at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital. He and his team will be wearing pink in the operating room in October to support this cause. Angelo's "why" for his Men Wear Pink campaign is his family member, Deana, who lost her battle with breast cancer at 57 years of age. He hopes that by telling her story that he can inspire others to help the American Cancer Society find a cure. To support Angelo's Men Wear Pink campaign, visit his fundraising page here: https://secure.acsevents.org/site/STR/RMWP/MWPCY25SER?px=60659414&pg=personal&fr_id=110999

Most of all, Angelo and the operating room team encourages every woman in our community of screening age to schedule their mammogram as soon as possible. Early detection can save lives. Don't wait! Schedule your mammogram today.

Tomorrow marks 24 years since 9/11 — a day our nation will never forget. For Dr. Stephanie Reynolds, a physician at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, the memories are deeply personal.

On that morning, she was an emergency room doctor in Queens, New York. Her husband, an NYPD officer, kissed her goodbye and said, “I don’t know if I’ll see you again,” before heading into the city as the second plane hit.

Thankfully, he made it home safely. In the days that followed, Dr. Reynolds did what she still does today — cared for patients with compassion, comforted grieving families and stood strong in the face of unimaginable loss.

This Sept. 11, Dr. Reynolds and her husband will return to New York to honor the officers in his unit who never came home.

Her story is one of courage, compassion and resilience. Watch the full feature from FOX 13 News - Tampa Bay: https://bit.ly/4mXnlAL

Patient safety remains a top priority at HCA Florida Healthcare and across HCA Healthcare’s integrated network of care. As a part of this commitment, HCA Healthcare established our own Patient Safety Organization (PSO) in 2014 to build systems, refine processes and enhance safety.

In our ongoing efforts to improve safe patient care, our PSO regularly refines processes and implements new safety measures. Our dedicated care teams work together each day to foster a safe environment for both our patients and our colleagues. Earlier this year, 49 HCA Healthcare hospitals were recognized on the 2025 Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals list for being within the top 5% of hospitals in the country for clinical excellence.
