One of our dedicated nurse managers has been honored with the DAISY Award for July 2025. Arwynn Collins was chosen by a panel of her fellow nursing peers, recognizing her exceptional contributions to patient care. As part of this award, she received a beautiful pin, a certificate, and a hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculpture, symbolizing her impactful work in the nursing field.

“Because of Nurse Collins, I trust the VA.” said one of Collin’s patients. “I ran squadrons when I was in the Air Force. I was also vice president of administration for a large energy oil services corporation, and I recognize good leadership. She has the leadership qualities that you would want to spread within an organization. She has the "right stuff" to be an administrator.”

Let’s all take a moment to congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition! Congratulations, Nurse Collins! Your hard work and compassion truly make a difference.

What an absolute blast from the past! We recently stumbled upon some old photos of what is now the Lake City VA Medical Center, which was formerly known as the U.S. Veterans Hospital No. 63.

It's truly fascinating to see the incredible transformations that have taken place since the beginning. The evolution of this facility reflects the dedication to serving Veterans and a reminder of the rich history that shapes the present and future. What a journey it has been!

We are excited to share the wonderful news that a dedicated mental health nurse, Amy Cooper, has been recognized as the DAISY Award Winner for June 2025!

Amy received this prestigious award for her exemplary display of care and compassion towards a Veteran who was experiencing severe distress and was in a critical state. Nurse Cooper took immediate action by dispatching deputies and emphasized the importance of a gentle approach to help this Veteran, aiming to prevent any additional trauma. She strongly advocated for the Veteran to be directed to a mental health facility instead of a traditional emergency room, prioritizing the patient's well-being.

Amy's dedication and thoughtful intervention highlight the significance of providing compassionate care in critical moments and exemplifies the qualities that the DAISY Award celebrates. We congratulate her on this well-deserved honor!
