We made it!!! It was so fun! The other athletes were so friendly and supportive. In newbie fashion, Austin’s helmet didn’t make it into either vehicle. So a scramble to find a helmet occurred at 730am. Thankfully Walmart wasn’t far and he made a quick trip to get a new helmet. That’s one way to get your heart rate up. (He’ll NEVER forget his helmet again!🤣) The swim was interesting as it was indoors. No one drowned. I felt like we were placed correctly in our timing. The bike was interesting. Can you imagine going down a hill at 33 mph on tires that are about an inch wide? That’s some scary sh*t!!! Don’t fall, don’t fall, don’t fall was on repeat in my head. What goes down must come up! Miles 4 and 5 burned but I didn’t die and I stayed on my bike! I remembered to unclip before getting off the bike! Falling in a parking lot by yourself is a bruised hip. (I have the bruise to prove it! 🤣) Falling in front of athletes and spectators is a bruised ego! The first mile of the run I had to figure out how to make my legs work again. There was more walking than running. After mile marker 1 the muscle memory kicked in and took me to the finish line! I placed #2 in my age group, NOT considered Masters!!! Austin placed FIRST in the male collegiate group!!! Way to go Austin!!! For our first ever triathlon I think we did pretty good! Now the training for Louisville officially begins! Thank you to our family for being our cheer team. Thank you to Kara, Anna Lee, McClain, and Caleb for all the suggestions, recommendations, and borrowed equipment!!!
