We did it!!! Finishing with smiles on our faces was the ultimate high! Austin finished strong in 5:28, and I clocked in at 6:48. (I beat my original goal of 7 hrs and 4 weeks after a wreck causing a shoulder separation!) The weather was toasty, but the overcast morning and promised rain (that never came!) made it bearable. What made it truly unforgettable was our incredible support team and the love sent from afar. Ironman is as much a mental game as it is physical. Without AirPods, we had to face our thoughts head-on. Mastering positive self-talk was crucial – it propelled us forward, while negativity would’ve held us back. Before we knew it, we were basking in the glory of the finish line! Don’t shy away from challenges – you’re stronger than you believe!

This past weekend Austin and I did our second Sprint Triathlon to prep us for Ironman 70.3 Louisville in August! Another great experience proving our training and hard work is paying off! We both made the podium! Austin was second in his age group and I placed 1st in my age group! Keeping the grind going! Another sprint tri in July, this will be an all women’s event!!!

15 weeks out! Putting in the work! Ellie had a tennis match this morning so we ran between matches. When we got home I jumped on the bike and got’er done! 90 min endurance ride. It would have been super easy to just put the ride off until tomorrow. The only person I’d be cheating would have been myself. Don’t cheat yourself! Get it done! I now have a coach to help guide me through the next 2.5 months of training bc I have little experience with endurance training. Don’t go at it alone! If you need help or guidance to make some Lifestyle changes let me help! I am board certified in Lifestyle Medicine. I can help coach you through making successful long lasting changes!!!

Active recovery today with a 20 min treadmill walk followed by a roll out. It hurt so good! Taking a rest day doesn’t necessarily mean do nothing. Active recovery is doing something at a much lower intensity. Are you looking for advice on ways to improve your health? I can help guide you on your journey to restore your health and wellness.

We made it!!! It was so fun! The other athletes were so friendly and supportive. In newbie fashion, Austin’s helmet didn’t make it into either vehicle. So a scramble to find a helmet occurred at 730am. Thankfully Walmart wasn’t far and he made a quick trip to get a new helmet. That’s one way to get your heart rate up. (He’ll NEVER forget his helmet again!🤣) The swim was interesting as it was indoors. No one drowned. I felt like we were placed correctly in our timing. The bike was interesting. Can you imagine going down a hill at 33 mph on tires that are about an inch wide? That’s some scary sh*t!!! Don’t fall, don’t fall, don’t fall was on repeat in my head. What goes down must come up! Miles 4 and 5 burned but I didn’t die and I stayed on my bike! I remembered to unclip before getting off the bike! Falling in a parking lot by yourself is a bruised hip. (I have the bruise to prove it! 🤣) Falling in front of athletes and spectators is a bruised ego! The first mile of the run I had to figure out how to make my legs work again. There was more walking than running. After mile marker 1 the muscle memory kicked in and took me to the finish line! I placed #2 in my age group, NOT considered Masters!!! Austin placed FIRST in the male collegiate group!!! Way to go Austin!!! For our first ever triathlon I think we did pretty good! Now the training for Louisville officially begins! Thank you to our family for being our cheer team. Thank you to Kara, Anna Lee, McClain, and Caleb for all the suggestions, recommendations, and borrowed equipment!!!

It’s time for a FFF!!! (Forced Family Fun!) Austin and I are doing a Sprint Triathlon in the morning. (Swim 300m, bike 10 miles, run 3.1 miles) we are bringing our cheering section! We thought it would be a good idea to get a taste for what August will bring. This will help us be more comfortable with the anticipation of the event and our training the next few months! Ellie and I brought the bikes down early. We drove the bike course. Miles 4 & 5 are going to HURT! We carb loaded and relaxed by watching March Madness (trying to see if we get a glimpse of the boys at the game!) Check back tomorrow for more!!!
