So I learned something today about Sun Salutes… 🌞

Not all of them are fast and intense.

Some are slow.
Some are precise.
Some are actually designed to protect your body.

And honestly… that matters.

Because yoga isn’t about keeping up or pushing through.
It’s about building a relationship with your body you can trust.

In my classes, we:
✨ Move with awareness
✨ Protect our joints and spine
✨ Let breath lead

If you’ve ever felt like yoga wasn’t for you…
you might just need a different approach 💛

✨ Community Connection Moment ✨

This Monday, May 4 at 9 AM at Bo Diddley Plaza, we’re honored to welcome a special guest into our Yoga Sankofa space 💛

Please join me in welcoming Debi Muir, owner and steward of Higher Ground Hot Yoga in Ogden, Utah.

Debi’s journey into yoga began as a path of healing beyond traditional systems, and has grown into years of teaching, leadership, and community building. Through her studio, Higher Ground Hot Yoga, she has created a space rooted in discipline, connection, and transformation.

She brings experience in Hatha yoga, meditation, and sound therapy, along with a deep passion for supporting both students and fellow teachers. Beyond the studio, she cares for a certified wildlife habitat and rescue animals—living her practice in a truly holistic way 🌿

She’s currently expanding into youth yoga and developing OM House, a space dedicated to breathwork, sound healing, and restorative movement.

We’re grateful to share space, breath, and community with her here in Gainesville.

What Does It Mean to Liberate Your Body?

Liberating your body is not about changing it.
It’s about changing your relationship to it.

We’ve been taught that our bodies must be smaller, tighter, quieter, more acceptable.
That weight defines worth.
That size determines discipline.
That gender dictates how we move, take up space, and exist.

But liberation asks different questions:

What if your body is not a problem to solve?
What if it is a place to return to?

To liberate your body is to:
✨ Move without punishment
✨ Rest without guilt
✨ Nourish without shame
✨ Take up space without apology

It is unlearning the idea that your body must look a certain way to be respected.
It is releasing the pressure to perform gender in ways that disconnect you from your truth.
It is honoring your body as it is today—not ten pounds from now, not more flexible, not more healed.

Right now.

In this moment.

Liberation can look like choosing gentle movement instead of pushing through pain.
It can look like wearing what feels good instead of what looks “right.”
It can look like breathing deeply into a body you were once taught to hide.

Your body is not an afterthought.
Your body is not an obstacle.
Your body is not wrong.

Your body is home.

And you deserve to feel free there.

Yoga isn’t just about flexibility.
It’s about support.

For the mind.
For the nervous system.
For the body you’re living in right now.

Regular practice can help with:

🧠 ADHD & focus → creating space to slow down and regulate
🌿 Autism → gentle, predictable movement and sensory grounding
🦴 Stiffness → increasing mobility without forcing the body
💧 Swelling → supporting circulation and reducing inflammation
💚 Overall health → breath, movement, and community care

And you don’t have to be “good” at yoga to receive any of this.

You just have to show up as you are.

My recovery isn’t fast.

It’s slow… and sometimes frustrating.

But it’s also teaching me something deeper—
how to actually listen to my body.

Not push past it.
Not ignore it.
Not rush it.

Just listen. Adjust. Respect.

Every small shift matters.
Every gentle stretch counts.
Every pause is part of the practice.

If your body is asking you to slow down too…
you’re not falling behind.
You’re learning a different kind of strength. 💚

My yoga practice is a little… neuro spicy.

It’s not rigid.
It’s not perfectly sequenced.
It moves with energy shifts.
It allows stimming.
It welcomes fidgeting.
It honors sensory needs.

Community Yoga isn’t about performing calm.

It’s about regulating together.

In honor of autism awareness, I want to say clearly:

Different nervous systems are welcome here.

March 2 • 9AM • Bo Diddley Plaza
All bodies. All brains. All welcome.
