Found this in storage today. The late John Andrew Cornell, PhD — a Statistics professor at the University of Florida who grew up with nothing and built everything through hard work and faith. A man who embodied sisu in every sense of the word.

Gainesville has needed this for a long time.
We’re building the city’s first Finnish-inspired sauna and cold plunge bathhouse — and we plan to open this July.

No reservations. No time limits. No private rooms you book a week in advance. Just show up when you want — before work, after a run, on a slow day — and the sauna is ready. You sweat, you plunge, you rest. You repeat until you feel like a different person. Then you go live your life.

That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

We’re currently halfway through construction at 1210 NW 23rd Ave. The heaters are being delivered soon. The plunge pool is in the ground. Lots more to do, expect updates.

Founding memberships are open now — $199/month, unlimited visits, locked in for life. The public rate when we open will be higher. There are 150 founding member spots and we’re filling them.

Gainesville Sauna House is a Finnish-inspired sauna + contrast therapy space designed for people who want to slow down, recover deeply, and disconnect from modern technology.

We chose a membership model on purpose — so you don’t have to think twice about taking care of yourself. No counting sessions. No saving visits for “special occasions.” Just come as often as your body needs, and make sauna & cold plunge part of your everyday rhythm.

We’re currently offering Founding Memberships at our lowest rate — $199/month — with early access when we open.

Before there was a building, there were books.

These works—focused on stillness, simplicity, and the nature of being human—helped shape the philosophy behind Gainesville Sauna House.

If you’re looking for thoughtful guidance on sauna design, construction, and the deeper ideas that inform them, we invite you to explore these titles.
