Celebrating a meaningful milestone at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital: our team has completed its 100th surgical case ahead of the hospital’s one-month anniversary of serving the North Central Florida community.

As our new hospital continues to grow, this achievement reflects our commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care and expanding access to surgical services in Gainesville. It takes an entire team working together to create healthier tomorrows for our community, and we congratulate every colleague, physician and caregiver who helped make this milestone possible.

General surgeon Dr. Peter Sarantos performed the hospital's 100th surgical case today, and he shared his appreciation for the team.

"It has been a joy to work here this month with the team at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital," said Dr. Sarantos. "This team is doing a great job, always going above and beyond for our patients, and for that I am grateful."

Staying mobile as you get older can help support strength, balance, confidence and independence.

At the Older Americans Month Tea Party hosted by Elder Care of Alachua County, HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation Program Director Chip Overstreet shared educational insights on ways mobility training can support healthy aging. His presentation highlighted how guided exercises can help improve gait, reduce fall risk and make everyday activities easier.

Chip also spoke about our new inpatient rehabilitation unit at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital, which opened to the community earlier this month. Our team provides personalized inpatient rehabilitation services designed to help people rebuild strength, improve function and return to daily life with greater confidence.

This EMS Week, HCA Florida North Florida Hospital and HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital are proud to thank the EMS professionals who serve patients across our tri-county area with skill, urgency and compassion.

Every call requires quick thinking, teamwork and trusted clinical judgment. We are grateful for the way local first responders help connect people to the care they need, when they need it most.

Together, our hospitals and local EMS supported 16,842 patient transports, 141 STEMI alerts and 536 stroke activations, helping connect people to the right level of care faster

Thank you to our EMS partners for all you do! Thank you also to LifeSouth Community Blood Centers for partnering with us this week to provide blood drives at our EMS Week celebration events, further supporting our mission: above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

During EMS Week, May 17-23, we recognize the EMS professionals whose skill, speed and teamwork help make lifesaving care possible. From the first moments of an emergency through arrival at our hospital, their work helps improve outcomes when every second counts.

What sets this work apart is the coordination behind it. Our collaboration with EMS helps streamline heart attack, stroke and emergency care so patients can reach the treatment they need without delay. This EMS Week, thank you to the professionals who show up ready to act, ready to lead and ready to care.

This Hospital Week, we’re proud to celebrate the expertise and collaboration behind a meaningful milestone at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital.

Our radiation oncology department recently delivered volumetric modulated arc therapy total body irradiation, or VMAT-TBI, to a transplant patient — a first across HCA Healthcare.

This yearlong effort brought together doctors, medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation oncology colleagues and our Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program team to offer a highly customized treatment approach designed to improve dose precision, help spare critical organs and support patient comfort.

This milestone reflects the dedication of the teams who work every day to advance care for the patients we serve. Learn more about our cancer care services on our website: https://bit.ly/49OIbxs

During National Cancer Survivors Month, we’re honoring the strength of cancer survivors and the journeys that continue beyond treatment.

Join us on Friday, June 5, at 10 a.m. at the HCA Florida North Florida Hospital duck pond for a special butterfly release recognizing cancer survivors in our community.

Hospital colleagues, medical staff and community members are invited to attend as we come together to reflect, show support and honor each survivor’s story. Cancer survivorship can include follow-up care, healing and ongoing support, and this event is one way we recognize those journeys.

We hope you will join us.

During Hospital Week, we’re recognizing the food and nutrition colleagues at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital for the important role they play in the patient experience every day.

When food and nutritional services colleague Vet served the first patient meal at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital last week, it marked more than a milestone for our new facility. It reflected the thoughtful, compassionate care our teams provide to support healing from the very start.

Food and nutrition services are an important part of the care experience. From meeting patients’ needs to helping them feel supported and cared for, these colleagues help create an environment focused on comfort, recovery and high-quality, patient-centered care.

Please join us in celebrating the food and nutrition team at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital during Hospital Week!
