Today we remember September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our nation. We honor the lives lost, the families forever impacted, and the incredible bravery of the first responders who ran toward danger to help others. Their sacrifice continues to inspire us in EMS to serve with courage, compassion, and dedication. We will never forget.

🚨 Lifesaving Recognition 🚨

On September 4th, 2025, during the City's council meeting, the Absecon Police Department proudly recognized several of our officers and members of the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad for their outstanding actions during two recent life-saving incidents.

On July 24th, 2025, officers responded to a medical emergency at the Home Depot for an unconscious male. Before their arrival, retired local firefighter Phil Boyle jumped into action and began providing medical attention. Working quickly alongside members of the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad, officers initiated life-saving measures, including CPR, and were able to regain a pulse before transport.

Thanks to their swift and coordinated efforts, the individual was transported to the hospital and has since made a full recovery. He accompanied the awarded first responders at the ceremony, with his family.

The Absecon Police Department Life-Saving Award was issued to:

Officer Da'Zhon Bethea
Officer Joyce Lee
Officer Michael Barbagallo
Officer Matthew Hartman

Galloway Township Ambulance Squad Members:

Anease Degennaro
Evan Frugoli
Evan Hendrickson
Tom Bailey

Retired Firefighter Phil Boyle

Just one day later, officers and Galloway Township Ambulance Squad personnel responded to a residence on Ruth Court for an unconscious person. After family members located their loved one inside the home, they began performing CPR until the arrival of our first responders. Officers and medical professionals were able to continue life-saving measures, ultimately regaining a pulse on the patient. He was transported to the hospital where his life was sustained for a few more weeks, allowing family members to prepare and say goodbye.

The Absecon Police Department Life-Saving Award was issued to:

Sergeant Mitchell Levin
Officer Daniel Howell

Galloway Township Ambulance Squad Members:

Christina Caruso
Adam Damman

Last Night, our department, along with members of the Absecon Police Department, were honored by Absecon City Mayor and Council for two life-saving incidents in the city. Teamwork is the only way for us to accomplish our mission. EMS does not stand alone in life-saving; our partners in law enforcement are essential to this task. The men and women of the Absecon Police Department are highly trained and effective at what they do. Because of this teamwork, a citizen was about to stand next to those who saved his life. GTAS could not do our jobs without our law enforcement partners.

It has been two years now since we began service in the City of Absecon. We are proud to provide our essential service to citizens and visitors of Absecon, just as we do with all the other towns we serve. Thank you to Absecon City Mayor and Council for your confidence in us and for putting public safety first!

Week 5 winding down. This morning, Stockton University hosted our interns in the nursing simulation lab. Thanks to Ken Davis for hosting us and showing the awesome and very advance technology Stockton University uses to educate up and coming healthcare providers. This afternoon, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office educated the interns about the medical-legal aspects of public safety and shared stories from cases worked on in Atlantic County. We are fortunate to have great institutions and organizations in Atlantic County that offer young people opportunities and support their growth and learning.
