📸✨ Calling all teens! CTRL+CREATE and The Future Is Us are teaming up for a powerful week where art meets action! Join us for the Art in Activism Photography Workshop — a free, 5-day hands-on experience designed to help youth snap, focus, and speak out on the issues that matter most.

🗓️ June 2nd–6th
⏰ 3PM – 6PM daily
📍Wright-Cuney Recreation Center
🎯 FREE for teens | Cameras provided

Through creative prompts, real photography training, and a final community exhibit, youth will learn how to use their lens to tell their stories, advocate for change, and turn art into activism.

What is our Future?

The Future is US exists to fight for Galveston youth through community voice so future generations can meet their full potential. Our project was created by the ACEs to Assets Collaborative and funded by The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health’s Communities of Care Initiative.

The ACEs to Assets collaborative works to promote public awareness and build a trauma-informed environment to prevent and address adverse childhood and community experiences (ACEs). Through the Hogg Foundation’s Communities of Care Initiative we are looking at social determinants of health in Galveston that impact the well-being and health equity.

Like many communities, Galveston struggles with ensuring equity for children and youth of color and their families. Despite best efforts of community champions, community conditions that impact social determinants of health as well as institutionalized racism, policies, and procedures negatively impact our children and youth of color.

Black students in Galveston ISD are suspended three to six times more than their non-Black peers. As a community, we are developing an implementation plan to address the community conditions, policies, and procedures that perpetuate inequity for children and youth of color and their families.
