Benefit for Baby Alaina This page is to help spread the word about Alaina's benefit. Hopefully we can answer every question regarding the planning and execution of this benefit.

Alaina was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Cancer at 13 months old. A golf ball size mass was found pressing up against her airway. This will be a long road to recovery as we are just starting the first round of chemotherapy. They will have a reevaluation of surgical removal of the mass after the first few rounds of chemotherapy. The Drs want to shrink the mass before attempting surgical removal because the surgery is currently too dangerous. We appreciate any donations to this life changing event. Her Father and Mother are nurses themselves; they have devoted their lives to carrying for others. Its hard to be on the other side of things. They are currently on a leave of absence from work until she is moved out of a critical unit. This has been an emotional rollercoaster for sure. We appreciate the continued support and prayers. Though Alaina's original tumor on her airway has started to shrink, we also received news that the cancer was also found in her facial bone under her eye. This deems the cancer stage 4 since it is in the bone. The chemotherapy will continue for approximately 6 months. She will get to go home for breaks between rounds when the Drs feels it is safe. They have been in the hospital for a month so far. This benefit will take place May 14th at Daryls Place in Santa Fe. The address is 3330 Avenue A, Santa Fe TX 77510. 12 to 6pm. KSU for the fun run has changed to 10:30.

From my sister in law: Ryan and I want to thank everyone that came out today and showed support at the benefit for Alaina. Thanks to all those that donated items for auction, those that bidded in the auction, donated money and time, those that put this together and helped the benefit run smoothly today. It was such a great turn out we are so blessed!

The best Mothers Day news...I had an email from Alaina's Dr. DNA testing was sent off on her tumor back in March. This was a send out lab and the results just came back Friday. Her Neuroblastoma has officially been labeled Intermediate Risk. This is what we were intially told based on a little piece of biopsy, but DNA testing on the actual tumor as a whole was needed to make it official. Her plan of care will continue with 8 total rounds of chemotherapy. She just completed 4, so half way there! This is a blessing. I have been praying so hard that her tumor did not label her as a higher risk patient.

From Alaina's mom: Alaina had a good check up today. We will return to clinic to recheck her blood counts Monday. No transfusions needed so far after this round of chemo. Tomorrow is a big day for us both. I have had the support of UTMB and ability to be off with her since she became sick in February. I have decided to return to work now that we are in a routine and I can work around her Dr appointments and chemotherapy. I am happy to see all my work family but will miss my sweet pea so much. It feele like returning from maternity leave all over again.
