Take some time to ground yourself ✨

Phew 😮‍💨 — it’s been a long week! Let’s come back to the present by searching for any of the following:

- Something that’s your favorite color
- Objects that are gold or metal
- Rainbows (or rainbow-colored items)
- Something you don’t see often
- 3 Scrabble tiles (what do they spell?)
- Items related to the weather
- Butterflies or insects
- Something you only see in spring
- An item symbolizing good luck
- Something you’d like to eat
- Flowers of different colors
- Something that’s in your house

By looking for these things, you’re using your sense of sight to connect with the present moment.

You can do this anywhere by looking around you for a specific color or shape — or come back here anytime and choose an another option from the list to guide yourself back to the present!

Happy Friday, friends!

When you feel angry, what’s going on beneath the surface? Are you holding on to unexpressed needs you’d like to share with your partner?

Anger often masks deeper, more vulnerable experiences like embarrassment, sadness, and frustration. Learning to recognize anger as a protector of our raw feelings can be incredibly powerful. It can lead to conversations about underlying needs that allow you and your partner to grow closer.

By identifying and expressing your needs, you can help your loved one understand you better and reduce the likelihood of resentment growing in your relationship. Start feeling seen and heard today with Gottman Relationship Coach: https://bit.ly/3hgNDyW

How do you turn towards your child's big emotions?

When your young one acts out, they're likely expressing an underlying need. Dr. John Gottman refers to this as a "bid" for connection. While some bids from your child could look like showing you a new work of art or asking for a hug, they can also take the form of poking, yelling, throwing, repeating your name like a broken record, and a hundred other forms of verbal or non-verbal communication.

While these bids can bring up difficult emotions even for yourself as the parent, remember what your child is really saying: “See me, involve me, hear me.” When you approach their difficult emotions as an attempt to get attention, acceptance, or connection, you can then distinguish the best way to move forward and handle the situation.

On the Gottman Relationship Blog, Childproof Parenting - Melissa Benaroya offers tips to help you recognize your child's bids and strengthen the parent-child relationship through rituals of connection. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3ynikrq
