Everyone, please be aware that there is a BIG scam going on. If you receive a phone call from anyone saying that you have a warrant of any kind, whether from the sheriff's office or the federal court. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do NOT give them any information. These guys are sneaky and they give you valid information like the address to the sheriff's office where they want you to "turn yourself in at" your name and address, and other information. They are not legitimate. If they say you can pay the fine over the phone STOP!! at no point will that be a real thing. Get as much information from them as you can. Hang up and then call the department that they wanted you to surrender yourself to and notify them that you got that call. My friend, who is also an attorney, received one of these phone calls just a few minutes ago. The caller stated they were with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and she had a warrant for failing to appear for Federal Jury Duty and needed to turn herself in to the sheriff's department immediately, and even transferred the call to a supposed Detective. Once she stated that she would not be turning herself in and that she was an attorney, they hung up. She notified Shelby County of this phone, and they are aware of this happening and are investigating this scam. Please stay safe and aware.
