She always thought she had time.
She saw the missed calls and said I will call back.
I will stop by later.
Next time.
Her mom kept calling just to hear her voice.
Can you come today.
Not today mom I promise next time.
Life stayed busy.
Work. Kids. Tired days.
And next time kept getting pushed back.
Her mom never argued.
She only said okay baby.
Until the day the phone rang and it was the neighbor.
Your mom collapsed.
The ambulance is here.
She rushed over replaying every ignored call.
Every promise.
Every next time.
The house was quiet.
The chair was empty.
She whispered I was coming.
I thought I had more time.
Time does not wait.
Love needs presence not promises.
Go see them.
Answer the call.
Make the time.
Because one day next time will never come.
