This was NOT a panic attack moment for me⦠was probably saying something embarrassing about me in front of a lot of people as is his favorite custom. However, this face and body language sums up what it feels like for me to have a panic attack. Mine arenāt overwhelming in the sense that I feel like I canāt breatheāthat Iām used to!āand I donāt sweat profusely, etc. Mine come in this strange package. I can fake it to a certain extent, continue with whatever Iām doing. But inside, my stomach is flipping over like and waves of nausea haunt me. I immediately want to change locations and leave wherever I am. I want to go home or hotel if weāre traveling. And I canāt shake it on my own no matter how much pacing or deep breaths I try.
If you have anxiety, you might not share this exact scenario, but you get me. I share this because a. Itās way more common than I thought and it should be shared more often so that we can learn from each other and b. If you do not have anxiety or panic attacks of any kind, itās helpful to know that it comes in a lot of flavors. You might be dating, married, best friends with, mother or father to someone who does and hopefully, you can start recognizing his/her specific signs and tells so that you can help get that person what and where he/she needs to go.
