I had several parents ask me again today about social media and their kids.

I want to be honest: earlier in my career, before I was a parent myself, I relied on the limited information I had available. My goal was always to help families identify their values and feel empowered to create boundaries that fit their home.

As both a parent and a provider, I continue learning and growing. Lately, I have been taking a deeper look at how social media affects kids and teens—especially for children with differently wired, neurodivergent brains who may struggle more when typical limits or “social contracts” are not enough.

One of the most helpful resources I have found is an article from Happily Family, written by one of the creators behind social media notifications. It offers important insight into how these platforms impact teenage mental health.

If this is something your family is navigating, you are not alone. These conversations are hard, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. But there are ways to create more connection, more understanding, and more support.

I’ll be continuing to dig deeper into this topic and sharing what I learn along the way. 💙

I don’t want quiet kids.

I don’t want kids who nod their heads and accept everything they’re told just because an adult said it.

I want the questions.
The why’s.
The how’s.
The “that doesn’t make sense” moments.

Because blind obedience has never changed the world.

I want my kids to think.
To challenge things.
To look at the world around them and ask why it is the way it is.

If something feels wrong, I want them to say it.
If something confuses them, I want them to ask.
If someone tells them “because I said so,” I want them to know they’re allowed to want more than that.

Curiosity is not disrespect.

Questions are not attitude.

Thinking for yourself is not rebellion.

It’s intelligence.
It’s growth.
It’s how strong humans are raised.

So if my kids ask a lot of questions… good.

That means they’re learning how to think.

And that’s exactly the kind of humans I’m trying to raise.

Lets get ready for spring energy!

Some moms wear beige.

Some moms wear black band tees.

Some moms have the Pinterest kitchens
with matching containers and color-coded snack drawers.

Some moms have tattoo sleeves, messy buns, and kids running through the house with popsicles.

And the truth is…

Neither one makes someone a better mom.

Motherhood doesn’t come with one aesthetic.

It doesn’t belong to one personality type.
One style.
One version of what people think a “good mom” should look like.

Some of us show up to the school pickup line
with Stanley cups and matching outfits.

Some of us show up with tattoos, black tank tops, and coffee that’s been reheated three times.

But we’re all doing the same thing.

Loving our kids the best way we know how.

And honestly…

The world would be a lot easier on moms
if we stopped acting like motherhood only comes in one color.

Note to self.

I’ve never shared our office before… but this felt like the moment.

We installed this wood wall to help with sound echo —
but it became something more.

It changed the energy.

This space was designed to feel warm, not cold.
Inviting, not intimidating.
A place where clients — and staff — can breathe.

From echo to exhale.

What is your biggest struggle or fear with therapy offices?
