Humans are carry mammals meaning human newborns are meant to be held, transported, and physically close most of the time-not sitting in a nest.

Your baby is not doing anything wrong and are not forming bad habits. This is temporary and developmentally normal.

It’s ok for you or someone else to hold them A LOT! I know how hard it can be.

Enlist friends and family or a postpartum doula to help. Wear your baby. Lower your expectations Maybe part of the reason newborns are like this is because is forces the birthing person to rest 😉

I think the question “is this normal” is such a legitimate question for new parents. How can you know what’s normal if you’ve never done it before?

Parents just want to do the very best they can for their child and I’m here to make that transition into parenthood a little bit smoother.

Birth isn’t just physical. It’s emotional hormonal and deeply connected to how safe and supported you feel. When a partner is calm, present and supportive it helps the birthing person feel the same.

Why does that matter? Because feeling safe = more oxytocin which = more effective contractions.

Partners advocate your wishes and can help ground you when things get intense.

But here’s the thing – partners need support too. That’s where a doula comes in. We guide, reassure, and show partners exactly how to support you so neither of you feel lost or overwhelmed.

Because when your partner feels confident, you feel stronger!

When I say “everyone” I mean “EVERYONE!” Doctors, nurses, midwives, friends and family. Respect the fact that the person on the other door of the room you’re walking into is going through the most challenging and beautiful experience of their life. You may be coming with good intentions, but your interruption disrupts the hormones that drive labor. It causes her oxytocin to drop and her adrenaline to rise, which can result in her contractions slowing down or her labor stalling.

What can you do? Come in slowly and quietly. Notice the vibe. Don’t ask her questions during a contraction. Don’t stay long.

Doula’s ie trained professional birth workers do so much behind the scenes work to support their clients and run their business. Here is a brief list:

Continue their education
Keep track of their expenses and income
Communicate regularly with upcoming clients
Promote their business
Update their website
Attend networking events
Create documents to educate clients
Host prenatal with upcoming clients
Attend postpartum visits with previous clients
Answer tons of texts and emails from clients

There’s more but you get the picture. Sometimes you just need to sit at a coffee shop and get stuff done in between clients:)

Birth is intense, powerful, and deeply personal. The environment matters more than most people realize. A doula helps create a calm supportive space by keeping the room, peaceful, offering steady, reassurance, gentle touch, protecting the birthing person’s focus and supporting their preferences.

When the environment feels safe and supportive the body can do what it is designed to do. Calm encourages confidence. Support build strength. And no one should have to navigate birth feeling rushed, overwhelmed, or alone.

I just can’t say enough how incredible it is to be around a group of woman so passionate about caring for others. Yesterday was soul filling and these birth workers are doing the life changing work of supporting families through pregnancy, birth and parenthood! So grateful to be part of this community!
