Coming Back to Yourself
Some days, life feels like too many tabs open in the mind. Thoughts race ahead, loop backward, and your body is just trying to keep up.
That is when grounding becomes a small act of self-care.
Grounding is simply returning to the present through your senses and your breath. You do not need a candle, a yoga mat, or an hour of free time. You just need a willingness to pause.
A few of my favorites:
Step outside and feel your feet on the earth. Notice the air on your skin. Let your eyes soften toward the sky.
Try the five senses check-in. Name five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell, and one you can taste.
Breathe in for four, hold for four, exhale for six. That long exhale tells your body you are safe.
Use your hands. Warm water, a soft blanket, a pet to pet, a plant to water. Anything that pulls your awareness into the moment.
On the harder days, place a hand on your heart and whisper, I am here.
I am safe.
I am allowed to slow down.
The world will keep spinning whether you rush through it or move through it with presence. Grounding is choosing, again and again, to come home to yourself.
Take a breath.
Notice your feet.
Soften your shoulders.
Welcome home....
