The 2020-21 flu vaccine is here! And we are now scheduling DRIVE-THRU FLU CLINICS! Here are three ways to get your annual preservative-free quadrivalent flu shot or Flumist (the nasal flu vaccine):

1) During your regularly scheduled appointment (sibs and parents can get their vaccines at this time, too);
2) Make an office visit just for flu vaccine;
3) During our DRIVE-THRU FLU CLINICS! These clinics will be on Saturday mornings, by appointment only

Flu Shots are in!

Glendale Pedaitrics and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that all children 6 months and older receive the flu vaccine annually. Please call our office during business hours to schedule your flu vaccine appointment. We will have Flu Clinic hours on Saturday mornings starting in September and throughout the fall. If your child is already scheduled to come in for a check-up appointment this fall, he or she can receive the flu vaccine at that visit. This year we have the injectable influenza vaccine only. Children under 8 years of age who are receiving their first flu vaccine will need 2 in total (separated by at least 4 weeks).

Measles
As you are probably aware, there have been a few cases of Measles in the Glendale and surrounding areas. Measles is a viral disease characterized by fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash starting on the head and spreading down to the feet. Patients with Measles feel miserable.

The best way to protect your child from Measles is to vaccinate them.

The current recommendations by the CDC is to receive one MMR vaccine at age 1 year and a second MMR vaccine at age 4 years. According to the CDC, one vaccine is 95% protective against Measles, and two vaccines are 97% protective.

Please note that we can administer the second MMR vaccine EARLY, at least one month after the first MMR vaccine.

Also we can administer the first MMR vaccine EARLY for infants aged 6 months and older. These children would still need to receive a 2nd MMR vaccine at age 1 year and a 3rd one at age 4 years. This is a good recommendation for infants who may be travelling internationally to high risk area or who may be at increased risk of exposure to Measles.

Newborns under 2 months of age do receive passive Measles immunity from their mother for the first 6 weeks of life. If a mom is breastfeeding, the immunity may last until 6 months or longer.

We still have flu vaccine available for our patients! And it is not too late to protect yourself this flu season. The goal of the annual flu vaccine is to prevent severe disease from influenza A and B. Eighty to ninety percent of children who have had poor outcome from influenza (death or severe disease) are unimmunized against the flu. Call today to make a vaccine appointment!

Friday 12/15 - Please note that we will CLOSE EARLY for our annual Staff Holiday Party. Our office hours this day will be from 9 am until 1pm. We will be CLOSED 12/15 in the afternoon after 1pm.
