Volunteer Job Description:
As a Palliative Care Support Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses and their families. Your presence and assistance will contribute to enhancing the quality of life for patients in palliative care.
Responsibilities:
1. Companionship and Emotional Support:
• Offer a compassionate and empathetic presence to patients and their families.
• Engage in conversations and provide companionship to alleviate feelings of isolation.
2. Assistance with Activities:
• Assist patients with non-medical tasks, such as reading, writing, or engaging in hobbies.
• Assist patients with light housework.
3. Respite care:
• Provide short-term relief to primary caregivers, allowing them to take a break while ensuring the patient’s comfort.
4. Communication and Information Sharing:
• Act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare professionals, facilitating communication and ensuring information is conveyed accurately.
5. Comfort Measures:
• Help create a comfortable and soothing environment for patients, such as adjusting pillows, blankets, or playing calming music.
6. Training and Meetings:
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training provided by the palliative care team.
• Attend regular meeting with the volunteer coordinator and healthcare professionals to discuss patient needs and updates.
7. Maintaining Confidentiality:
• Respect and maintain the confidentiality of patient information and adhere to all relevant privacy policies.
