Our Community Grants Program funds a wide variety of nonprofit work that also strives to advance equity, racial justice and economic security. This year, the program will give special priority to organizations whose mission and core work respond to an essential, basic need. Applications are due in one week, on Thursday, August 21.

Next week is a week of firsts for so many. Whether it’s your kiddos first day of childcare, first day in a new program, or first day of school, we’ve compiled some helpful tips to help everyone get through their first days with ease (we hope🩷)!

👕 Label everything – From bottles to blankets, labeling helps us keep track of your child’s items.

📸 Bring a family photo – A familiar face helps ease nerves and provides comfort during the day.

🧸 Send a comfort item – A favorite stuffy, pacifier, or blanket can make transitions easier.

⏰ Arrive early – Give yourself a little extra time for drop-off so no one feels rushed.

😊 Keep goodbyes short & sweet – A hug, a kiss, and a confident “See you soon!” sets the tone.

💭Ask questions! Having all of the information will help put your mind at ease when sending your littles off and if you’re confident, they will be too!

📲Get familiar with your school’s or center’s parent communication app! Don’t be afraid to send a “just checking in” message to see how your littles are adjusting to their first few days!

💞Trust the process – Tears are normal (yes- grown-ups, you too!). Your child’s teams are trained to handle big feelings with care and compassion.

❔Why do my kids always come home from school so messy?! 🤨

We know that kids learn through play but play is MESSY.
🪏digging in the dirt
💧splashing in the sensory table
🎨exploring art materials

These activities can promote growth in all areas of child development
👋🏻fine and gross motor skills-digging, grasping, squishing, building
💭critical thinking and cognitive development-how things work & why, creating and implementing plans
🗣️Language and social emotional skills- when they work with peers or teachers to explain their plans and thoughts, work together, or cooperate to share toys and materials.

So, yes, they got messy today. But they learned, they had fun, and they made memories too. 💜

Lancaster Play & Learn Center accepted the challenge to and they CRUSHED IT💪🏻

The challenge was to spend 150 hours outside over the course of the summer and they completed the challenge in less than 2 months!

Way to go, guys! We can’t wait to see how you’ll celebrate! 💖
