Mark P. Patterson ,age 64 ,formerly of Park St. Gowanda ,passed away early Friday morning November 28, 2025 at the Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo .

Mark was born in Sacramento, California January 13, 1961 the son of Barry M. and Marilou E. (Miller) Patterson

Mark was a member of the Trinity United Church in Gowanda, a graduate of Gowanda Central , Class of 1979, he has spent the last several years at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility , he worked at the Collins Correctional Facility as a Correctional Officer prior to his declining health.

Mark was preceded in death by his father Barry, September 1, 2011 and by his morher Marilou July 12, 2020.

Mark will be laid to rest with his mom and dad at the Pine Hill Cemetery Gowanda .

Patricia L. Crouse , age 79 passed away unexpectedly at home in Buffalo Thursday November 20, 2025.

Born in Gowanda, December 4, 1945 the daughter of Lester L. and Edna M. (Coles) Arnold. Patricia married Henry J. Crouse at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gowanda June 28, 1968. Henry passed away June 7, 1997.

Patricia was a retired LPN, she worked at various health care facilities in the area , including Eden Heights in Eden, NY.

Patty and Henry were both involved with the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Dept. Patty served as past President of the Departments Ladies Auxiliary, she was also involved with the Southwestern Fire District Auxillary . Growing up in Gowanda , Patty and her family attended the Trinity United Church of Christ she was involved with various church committees and sang in the church choir. She was a loving mom and sister and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.

Survivors include chIldren; Michael J. (Tonya) Crouse of Gowanda, Karen (Fredrick) Schmitkens of Buffalo and a Godson Richard Brumfield of Buffalo. Grandchildren; Michael Jr., Jeffrey, Kaitlin, Brandon, Justin and Annie. Great grandchildren; Bentley, Riley, Oni, Nicholas, Emmalynn, Laycee, Carson and Austin. Patricia is also survived by her sister Leslie (Jerry) Nowak of Cheektowaga.

Patricia was preceded in death by her Mom and Dad , her husband Henry of 29 years and a great grandson Jeremiah Jaskowiak.

Friends may call SUNDAY NOVEMBER 30, 2025 from 1:00-5:00pm at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda. A funeral service for Patricia will commence at 5pm at the close of calling hours Sunday.

Alan Pracht “ Opie” age 69 of Cattaraugus formerly of Perrysburg passed away unexpectedly Tuesday November 18, 2025.

Born in Waltham, Mass on December 6, 1955 the son of Deane A. And Nettie (McAlpline) Pracht.

He graduated from Gowanda Central School, class of 1974. Alan was an electrician and maintenance worker specializing in refrigeration repair, a trade passed down from his grandfather. He work at various grocery markets and corporate coffee chains throughout WNY and NYS .

Alan attended the Gowanda Free Methodist Church, he enjoyed his 2 girls, spending time with his grandchildren shooting pool, and bowling.

Survivors include his daughters; Carin (Andrew) Carriero of Hamburg and Cayleigh M. (Peter) Pracht of Cairo , Egypt. Grandchildren ; Brody and Beck Carriero, Elora Atef and a baby girl Carriero due in March of 2026. Alan is also survived by his brother Daryl Pracht of Gowanda. Alan has an extended family in Mississippi a place he had fond memories of growing up and where he will be laid to rest .

A Celebration of Life at the Gowanda Free Methodist Church ; 149 West Main St. will be held Saturday November 29, 2025 @ 11:00am ( please assemble at church) . Rev. Simon Knighten will officiate.

Hank J. Chmiel age 72 passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning November 16, 2025 at the Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville, NY surrounded by family.

Hank was born in Gowanda , August 12, 1953 the son of Henry J. and Frances (Danner) Chmiel.

A mason , Henry worked with concrete for many years and was very meticulous about his craft. Henry worked at various companies throughout Western New York , retiring from the former Cage Construction of Buffalo. Hank married the former Deborah K. Shamy Turman in Denver, Co. February 15, 1986. He enjoyed living at the family homestead that had been a part of the Chmiel family for generations, he enjoyed shooting pool , throwing horseshoes, and playing cribbage with his brothers, he collected antique bottles and Indian relics (a life hobby passed down from his dad) and of course a big fan of the Denver Broncos Football Team .

Survivors include his wife ; Deborah K. Turman -Chmiel , children; Anthony (Jekee) Turman of Waterloo, NY and Angela K. Chmiel of Gowanda . Granddaughter; Trianna Turman. Brothers; Dennis (Edith) Chmiel of Lawtons , Rob (late Lori) Chmiel of Strykersville along with nieces and nephews.

Hank was preceded in death by his father Henry in 2006, his mother Frances in 2023 and his brother Michael in 2019.

Friends may call Thursday November 20, 2025 from 3:00 - 7:00pm at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda where Hank’s funeral will be held Friday November 21, 2025 @ 11:00am .

A pot luck funeral luncheon will be held immediately after Hanks funeral service on Friday at the VFW Post 5007 at 20 Sand Hill Gowanda . Anyone that would like to bring a dish for the luncheon, please contact the family, funeral home or VFW to coordinate. In lieu of flowers , memorial donations can be made to the family to offset medical expenses.

The family wants to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, prayers and support you have shown them, especially regarding the benefit that was held this past weekend at the Slovenian Club.

Frederick J. Webber age 88 of Forestville passed away Friday morning October 31, 2025 at home surrounded by family.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY February 10, 1937 the son of Reginal and Irene (Porter) Webber .

Fred was a Lay Minister of the Seventh Adventist Church in Perrysburg where he also was a Church Elder. Fredereck’s ministry was his compassion and his love of God was shared to many throughout western New York. Fred was an outdoorsman, loved family and had a special place in his heart especially for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred married Temple (Drewiega) Kuhn in Hamburg August 18, 1979, Their matrimony created a large combined family unit of love and faith, these teachings remain with the extended Webber and Kuhn families. Whether you consider Fred a husband, father, grandfather,great grandfather, brother ,friend or spiritual leader he will be missed.

Fred retired from Local 210 of Buffalo, his work led him to a variety of construction projects in the area.

Survivors include Temple, his wife of 46 years , children ;Daniel Webber of Gowanda, Cyndi (Tim) Shook of Olivet, MI, Tim (Jade) Webber of Forestville, Todd, (Kristy) Webber of Albion, Temple’s children ; Patrick (Yupha) Kuhn of Fl. , and Greg (Sarah) Kuhn of York ,ME, Fred and Temple were blessed with 28 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Fred is also survived by a sister Diane Emke Webb of South Dayton, in-laws Dorothy Webber (Ed’swife) and Sharon Webber (Bill’s wife), along with several nieces and nephews , including great and great great.

Frederick was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 sons Douglas, Randy and James Webber( James wife Kate survives) Siblings; Dorothy Babbit, Edward Webber, Ilean Nenoff, William Webber, Joanne Gage, Carol Gage, Gordon Webber and Albert Webber.

Dale A. DeCarlo age 74 of Gowanda passed away at the Autumn View Pallative Care Unit in Hamburg Wednesday October 29, 2025.

Dale was born October 12,1951 in Gowanda the son of Joseph and Helen (Mikluscak) DeCarlo.

Dale married Deborah Geil, Deborah passed away April 8, 2018.

Dale retired from the West Valley Nuclear Services Co. where he was a Senior Specialist. He retired in 2017 after 29 yrs of employment. Dale was a proud 50 yr. member of the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Dept. He served as President, Secretary and on the Board for the Department. Dale also was a member of the Gowanda Village Board for 7 years and was a member of the Slovenian Club.

Survivors include two sons ; Anthony DeCarlo of Gowanda and Joseph (Shannon) DeCarlo of Boston, NY along with a grandson Ian DeCarlo. Dale is also survived by his siblings; Bill (Jane) Fedor of Perrysburg, Len (Pam) DeCarlo of New Wilmington, Pa. and Jim (Paula) DeCarlo of Grosse Pointe, MI. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday November 1, 2025 at 10:00am from St Joseph’s RC Church ;East Main St. Gowanda (please assemble at church) . Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery (Zoar Rd.) Gowanda.

Winifred J. Howard, formerly of Mildred Avenue in Collins NY, passed away Saturday October 11. 2025 at the Gowanda Nursing Home. She was 97 years old.
Winnie was born in Collins NY on March 19, 1928. She was the daughter of Milford J. and Clara (Decker) Mc Intyre.
Winnie married Harold A. Howard on May 7, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. Harold passed away on October 23, 2024.
Winnie enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking and traveling with Harold (Joe) as members of the Collins Center Seniors. She was well known and proud of her 45 year career in banking. She started in Buffalo but quickly came to Gowanda working for The Bank of Gowanda, Marine Midland and finally HSBC bank. She worked as a teller and worked her way up to the platform. She was also a member of the Gowanda Moose Lodge and the Slovenian Club.
After retirement, along with Joe, Winnie volunteered with the Rural Transit Van service for close to 20 years. Winnie and Joe were often seen on their daily walk in Collins, rain or shine.
Survivors include her children: Karen (Donald) Martinelli of Stamford Conn., Terrence (Pamela) Howard of Gowanda and Sharon (Kevin) Wurst of Gowanda.
Grandchildren; Christopher Martinelli, Elysabeth Martinelli and Matthew Wurst.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings; Evelyn Obrien, Milford (Mick) McIntyre, Marion Collopy and Eileen Felong.
A graveside service will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery in Wesley where Winnie and Joe will be laid to rest at the convenience of the family.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to The Collins Fire Company 2365 Main St. Collins, NY 14034 or a charity of one’s choice.

Born in Niagara Falls , NY August 29, 2025 the son of Michael and Maureen (Berthot) Guadango.

Before moving to Gowanda Michael worked in woodworking in Florida, he specialized in furniture building .

Survivors include Laura L. M. (Costagliola) Guadagno of Gowanda.
Siblings; Ralph (Terri)Guadagno, Marci (Doug Ebur) Guadagno, Melenie (John)Venditti, Kendra (Joseph) Pinkowski and the late Kathleen Guadagno. Several nieces and nephews also survive .

Trooper Mark A. Ondus ,age 56 ,ended his earthly watch Thursday October 9, 2025 surrounded by family.

Mark was born May 6, 1969 in Gowanda, NY one of three sons born to John H.and Carol L. (Kurz) Ondus.

A 1987 graduate of Gowanda Central School, Mark attended the NYS Police Academy and started his career in Law Enforcement in 1994. His dedication and sacrifice to the NYS Troopers as his line-of-duty passing is from an illness related to his assignment in and around the World Trade Center site following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. These attacks had a profound impact on many first responders years later and many families are feeling the ultimate sacrifice there loved one’s are to this day still experiencing. His commitment to justice and safety touched countless lives ,Officer Ondus was not only a brave protector but also a friend, mentor and a beloved member of the Gowanda Police Dept. along with working as an SRO in North Collins . Mark was a loving son , brother, husband , father , grandfather, uncle, colleague and friend. He will be missed.

Survivors include his wife; Tamara (Cross) Ondus, children; Charles Ondus, Sebastian (Kayla) Luther, Nikolas Ondus and Tauni Ondus. Grandchildren; Everleigh and Sophia Luther also survive as does his brother John “Jay” (Paula) Ondus, nieces, nephews and Lauritz (Ida) Predelli an AFS exchange student from Denmark that the family opened their home to. Mark’s German Shepherd Diesel is feeling his loss also as does Tammy’s mom Linda Cross and Tammy’s siblings.

Mark was preceded in death by his father; John Ondus (2001), his mother;Carol Ondus (2011), brother; Scott Ondus (2019) ,nephew;Jordan Ondus( 2011) and father in-law;Wayne Cross (2012).

Friends may call Tuesday October 14, 2025 from 3:00-7:00 pm at the Revive Wesleyan Church @ South Creek 2063 South Creek Rd. Eden, NY 14057. An in-line-of-duty service with NYS law enforcement participation will be held Wednesday October 15, 2025 @ 11:00am (please assemble at church). Pastor David Gable will Officiate. Interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Gowanda, NY.

Mary R. Matthews age 86 passed away September 18, 2025.

Born June 8, 1939 the daughter of Fred and Genevieve (Bottom) Wells , Mary was the last surviving sibling in her family.

Mary married Jon Matthews on October 6, 1956 at the former St. Paul’s RC Church in Dayton. Jon passed away August 15, 2010.

Mary retired from the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother , she found happiness in nature, gardening, along with enjoying countless hobbies and crafts. She was a woman of many talents.

Survivors include her children; Kathryn (Paul) Sherlek of Cambridge Springs, Pa., Susan (Lawrence) Reumann of Conewango Valley, Mary Ann Falcone of Columbus, OH. , Elizabeth (Gerald) D’Amaro of Gowanda and Stephen (Andrea) Matthews of Thurmond , MD. Mary’s legacy lives on through her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom brought her joy.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life was held at her daughter; Elizabeth (Gerald) D’Amaro’s residence . Mary was laid to rest with her husband Jon at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Gowanda . A family graveside gathering took place at the Cemetery Monday October 6, 2025 @ 11:00 am , which would have been Mary and Jon’s 69th wedding anniversary.

Dolores A. Connolly age 92 of Collins passed away Wednesday October 1, 2025 at the Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo surrounded by family.

Born in Alden, NY December 18, 1932 the daughter of Alton and Florence (Nunz) Fix .

Dolores was a loving mother with a big heart , she was a devout member of St. Joseph’s RC Church of Gowanda. She loved yard sales and antiquing , she especially was fond of salt and pepper shakers and mast quite a collection that she shared with family and friends . Her smile was infectious a hug and a kiss goodbye and hello was a trait that Dolores also shared. Dolores enjoyed bowling even into her 90’s, besides being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker Dolores drove school bus in East Aurora and Gowanda , making long lasting friendships along the way .

Survivor include her children; Steve (Penny) McDowell of East Aurora, Ann (Nelson) Dorolek of Marilla, Sue (Robert) Terry of Innisfil, Ontario, Canada, and Ron(Alison) Connolly of Springville. Dolores is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren along with a brother Alton (Carol) Fix of Darien Center and several nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husbands; Richard McDowell and Joseph Connolly. Dolores was also preceded in death by a brother Clement Fix and a sister Agnes Hassenbohler.

Jesse Twoguns age 52 of Salamanca passed away unexpectedly at home Sunday September 21, 2025.

Born at the former Tri-County Hospital Gowanda into the Turtle Clan December 23, 1972 the son of Wende Mohawk and the late Leif Twoguns Sr.

Cpl. Jesse Twoguns, U. S. Army Specialist, serving with CoC/70th Engineer Battalion graduated from Gowanda Central School, Cpl Twoguns was awarded the Purple Heart recognizing his military actions and bravery. Cpl. Twoguns was wounded in a firefight during an attack on his patrol unit on April 21, 2005. He was hit .After he was wounded , he continued to help the other soldiers with their injuries, not realizing how badly he was injured . He was airlifted to a U. S. Army Hospital in Germany for surgery and to recover from his wounds. Cpl. Twoguns stayed with his company and was sent back to Iraq to finish his combat tour. His military service to our country had him serving in Kuwait/Iraq-Operation Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom. Cpl. Twoguns also received the Army Commendation Medal, Valorous Unit Award, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Defense Service Medal to name a few. Upon arriving home from combat tour in 2005 he was honored with a Warriors Eagle Feather by Charles Nephew , (the Commander of the American Legion Iroquois Post #1587 at the time) and Trudy Jackson (2005 Councilor for the Seneca Nation). Cpl. Twoguns did three tours of duty before being honorably discharged in 2006. We as a community are proud to have a member of our armed forces give all he did to keep America the land of the free and certainly through him the home of the brave. On behalf of all that read this, Thank you Cpl. Twoguns .

Survivors include : Jesse’s mother, Wende (Mohawk) Harjo. of Perrysburg .Siblings; Joseph Harjo with whom Jesse resided with, Cassie Twoguns , Charles (Stacey) Twoguns , Leif Twoguns Jr. , Katie Harjo, Chana (Kody Hill) Twoguns, Ceely Twoguns, along with many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Great nieces and Great nephews.

Jesse was preceded in death by his father Leif Twoguns Sr. (2023), step mother Janet Twoguns (2008), siblings; Che Twoguns (2004),Levi Twoguns (2022), Lewi Twoguns (2008), and Eric Twoguns (1972) along with both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Friends may call at Jesse’s mother Wende’s residence 10980 White Dr. Perrysburg, NY after 2 pm on Wednesday and all day Thursday where funeral services with full Military Honors will be held Friday September 26, 2025 @ 10 am. Interment to follow in the family cemetery on Indian Hill.
