Margaret “Marge” J. Annarino, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville, surrounded by her family.

Born in Cortland, NY, on March 7, 1943, she was the daughter of Robert and Alta (Park) Moore. Margaret graduated from DeRuyter High School and went on to receive her nursing degree from Millard Fillmore School of Nursing in Buffalo. She worked as a registered nurse for Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, later working as a registered nurse for the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center. After the Psych Center closed, she worked as a registered nurse for the Collins Correctional Facility. She retired from Collins in 1999 after 30 years of combined state employment. Not ready to retire, Marge worked for Dr. Occhino as a receptionist/nurse.

Survivors include her son, Robert M. Annarino of Gowanda, grandchildren Robert C, Molly, Angel and Daniel Annarino. Marge shared her life with Mark Badurek of Perrysburg for 42 years, she is also survived by a brother James (Helen) Moore of Norwich, NY along with nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and by her son Richard Annarino, Richard passed Sept. 22, 2022

Marge enjoyed quilting, canning, and gardening. She also volunteered a great deal. Margaret was instrumental in getting Love Inc. of Gowanda opened. Her determination and tireless acts helped get the facility to go from a dream to reality. She delivered meals to shut-ins through Gowanda’s Meals on Wheels program and donated regularly to various animal shelters and humane societies.

Friends may call on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 2:00-7:00 pm at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda. Marge’s funeral will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 am. Interment will be on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 2:00 pm in Truxton, NY.

Edith G. (Holmes) Schell, age 83 of Collins passed away Sunday evening December 14, 2025 at the Orchard Heights Care Facility in Orchard Park, NY.

Edith was born June 17, 1942 the daughter of George Jr. and Sara Margaret (Grant) Holmes.

Edith taught English at the Gowanda Central High School , known as Mrs Schell, she was a mentor to many who had her as a teacher, she made time for her students, not only did she teach , she also coached the Gowanda High School Majorettes and was a high school cheerleading instructor . Edith received her Bachelor of Science and Master degrees in Education at Houghton College.

Spiritually, Edith attended the Gowanda Free Methodist Church. She participated in the church choir, the double trio singer’s along with Springville’s chorus group . She was familiar face of the Teen Breakfast Club and with the church’s quilting group. She enjoyed quizzing the church youth during Bible Study.

Edith volunteered for many organizations after retirement , Meals on Wheels, United Way and was an Election Official for the Democratic Party to name a few. She represented New York State Teachers Union , was on the Collins Library Board of Directors and a member of the Sierra Club. She loved traveling, she would drive across the country just to enjoy a new outdoor activity and to meet people from all over the United States that had the same interest she had . In her earlier years she would give bike tours in Maine. A new location , a new experience, a new challenge were things Edith was always up for.

Edith is survived by her brother Thomas (Catherine) Holmes and their family of North Carolina . Coming from a small family Edith cherished her church family here and enjoyed spending time with with her dear friend Debra (Tussing) Mausteller who filled Edith’s void of not having children.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband David Schell and her long time companion Michael Blaschke.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date .

Deborah K. Chmiel age 71 passed away Thursday evening December 11, 2025 at home surrounded by her family Anthony, Jekee, Trianna , Angela and Deb’s friends Marie and Karen.

Deborah was born in Miami Fla. January 25, 1954. She met Henry J. Chmiel in Dallas Tx, they later moved to Denver Co. (a place they both considered their home away from home) . They were married February 15, 1986 in Denver. Deb truly had a hard time accepting the fact her husband Henry had passed, however after 25 days of him being gone they were reunited once again. A hard and emotional time for the family , but knowing they are back together along with all their friends and family that have gone before them gives the family a sort of peace knowing this reunion is a happy one.

Deb was the Club Manager for the American Legion Post 409 in Gowanda for more than 20 years. Her smile and laugh will be missed by all that knew her. Fun was had, memories were created anytime she was involved . She adored her granddaughter Trianna. Deb enjoyed antiquing, girls night with overnight trips to the casino, visiting with friends whether it be outside around a bonfire or at friends homes. She also enjoyed her day trips with friends to the Springville Community Pool during the summer months, weekend trips spending with friends at Kissing Bridge Ski Resort during the winter and her and Hanks vacation to Key West with friends. Deb will be missed.

Survivors include her son; Anthony (Jekee) Turman of Waterloo, daughter; Angela Chmiel of Gowanda, granddaughter; Trianna Turman along with a brother; Michael Shamy of Denver, Co. and a sister; Rebecca Shamy also of Denver.

Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center Street Gowanda, from 10:00am -12 noon on Wednesday December 17, 2025. A service for Deborah will commence at noon following vistation. Memorials, if desired ,may be made to the family to help defray medical costs.

There will be a funeral luncheon at the VFW Post 5007 @ 20 Sand Hill Rd. immediately following the funeral.

Deborah L. Dubaj age 69 of Gowanda and Perrysburg passed away surrounded by family and LOVE Wednesday morning December 10, 2025.

Deborah was born in Buffalo October 12, 1956 the daughter of Kenneth and Anne (Rockwood) Wade.

Survivors include her husband George Dubaj , she was a devoted mom and grandma . Her children include a son Robert (Melanie) Skeels of Perrysburg , a daughter ; Margaret (Matthew) Butcher of Perrysburg. Grandchildren; Jacob Skeels, Nathan Skeels, Lyndsey Skeels, Shauna Skeels, Traya Skeels, Anthony Manning, Kiersten Brooks and Elizabeth Brooks. Her mother Anne Wade of Illinois survives . Deborah is also survived by a brother; William (Barb) Wade of Perrysburg and a sister; Wendy (Edward) Springer of Illinois along with a niece Whitney and a nephew Kenneth.

Deb worked throughout her adult life , she retired from Walmart in Springville in 2019 after 20 years of employment . She worked prior at the former Tri County and Lakeshore Hospitals in nursing , she also worked part-time at the VFW in Gowanda.

Deborah was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Wade and a son Scott Skeels, Scott passed away in August of 2016.

As per Deb’s wishes there will be no prior visitation and services will be private.

Katherine Lenore Thies age 85 of Perrysburg passed away Wednesday morning December 3, 2025 at home surrounded by family following a long illness.

Born May 23, 1940 the daughter of the late George and Ruth (Crager) Noble . She is survived by her husband William John Thies whom she married on July 26, 1958. John and Kathy made many happy and joyous memories through camping, boating and traveling the country.

Kathy worked in the lunchroom of the Gowanda Central School where she will be remembered for her delicious desserts

Kathy was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star and was a proud member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) .

Besides her husband of 67 years Kathy is survived by her children; Richard (Marcia Kent ) Thies of Falconer Jane (Daniel Sr.) Sprague of Perrysburg Cheryl (Stephen) Crouse of South Dayton and Emily ( Erik Buskist) Mongillo of Springville. Grandchildren; Melissa (Alex Hedges) Sprague, Daniel Jr.(Michele) Sprague , Andrew (Carrie) Thies, Matthew (Holly) Thies, John Thomas Thies, Daniel Jr. (Michele) Sprague, Sheila Crouse, Sarah Crouse and Samuel Mongillo. Kathy is also survived by 4 great grandchildren; Michaela and Kylee Sprague, Thomas and Forest Thies along with her brother Robert (Sandy) Noble of North East , Pa and several nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers; John, Richard and William Noble.

A private family service was held .

Deborah D. Barber age 67 of Cattaraugus passed away early Thursday December 4, 2025 at the Buffalo General Hospital surrounded by family.

Deborah was born June 17, 1958 in Buffalo the daughter of Robert and Delores (Kamphey) Will.

Deborah worked at various group homes throughout Western NY Dept of Disabilty Services (WNYDDSO) She was employed with NYS for nearly 30 years.

Survivors include her husband Richard J. Barber, children; Jeremy (Amanda) Barber of North Otto, , Evan (Kelly) Barber of Salamanca, and Shane Barber of East Otto . Grandchildren: Phoenix Barber, Skyla Barber, River Barber and Jamison Barber . Siblings; Helen Dennison of Fla. Denise (Brian) Bigham of Gowanda, and Joan Beardi of Fla. Deborah is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Debbie loved going out to lunch and shopping with her granddaughters.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents along with siblings ; David, Douglas, Dennis and Daryl Will.

As per Deborah’s request , all services will be private .

Mark P. Patterson ,age 64 ,formerly of Park St. Gowanda ,passed away early Friday morning November 28, 2025 at the Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo .

Mark was born in Sacramento, California January 13, 1961 the son of Barry M. and Marilou E. (Miller) Patterson

Mark was a member of the Trinity United Church in Gowanda, a graduate of Gowanda Central , Class of 1979, he has spent the last several years at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility , he worked at the Collins Correctional Facility as a Correctional Officer prior to his declining health.

Mark was preceded in death by his father Barry, September 1, 2011 and by his morher Marilou July 12, 2020.

Mark will be laid to rest with his mom and dad at the Pine Hill Cemetery Gowanda .

Patricia L. Crouse , age 79 passed away unexpectedly at home in Buffalo Thursday November 20, 2025.

Born in Gowanda, December 4, 1945 the daughter of Lester L. and Edna M. (Coles) Arnold. Patricia married Henry J. Crouse at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gowanda June 28, 1968. Henry passed away June 7, 1997.

Patricia was a retired LPN, she worked at various health care facilities in the area , including Eden Heights in Eden, NY.

Patty and Henry were both involved with the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Dept. Patty served as past President of the Departments Ladies Auxiliary, she was also involved with the Southwestern Fire District Auxillary . Growing up in Gowanda , Patty and her family attended the Trinity United Church of Christ she was involved with various church committees and sang in the church choir. She was a loving mom and sister and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.

Survivors include chIldren; Michael J. (Tonya) Crouse of Gowanda, Karen (Fredrick) Schmitkens of Buffalo and a Godson Richard Brumfield of Buffalo. Grandchildren; Michael Jr., Jeffrey, Kaitlin, Brandon, Justin and Annie. Great grandchildren; Bentley, Riley, Oni, Nicholas, Emmalynn, Laycee, Carson and Austin. Patricia is also survived by her sister Leslie (Jerry) Nowak of Cheektowaga.

Patricia was preceded in death by her Mom and Dad , her husband Henry of 29 years and a great grandson Jeremiah Jaskowiak.

Alan Pracht “ Opie” age 69 of Cattaraugus formerly of Perrysburg passed away unexpectedly Tuesday November 18, 2025.

Born in Waltham, Mass on December 6, 1955 the son of Deane A. And Nettie (McAlpline) Pracht.

He graduated from Gowanda Central School, class of 1974. Alan was an electrician and maintenance worker specializing in refrigeration repair, a trade passed down from his grandfather. He work at various grocery markets and corporate coffee chains throughout WNY and NYS .

Alan attended the Gowanda Free Methodist Church, he enjoyed his 2 girls, spending time with his grandchildren shooting pool, and bowling.

Survivors include his daughters; Carin (Andrew) Carriero of Hamburg and Cayleigh M. (Peter) Pracht of Cairo , Egypt. Grandchildren ; Brody and Beck Carriero, Elora Atef and a baby girl Carriero due in March of 2026. Alan is also survived by his brother Daryl Pracht of Gowanda. Alan has an extended family in Mississippi a place he had fond memories of growing up and where he will be laid to rest .

A Celebration of Life at the Gowanda Free Methodist Church ; 149 West Main St. will be held Saturday November 29, 2025 @ 11:00am ( please assemble at church) . Rev. Simon Knighten will officiate.

Hank J. Chmiel age 72 passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning November 16, 2025 at the Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville, NY surrounded by family.

Hank was born in Gowanda , August 12, 1953 the son of Henry J. and Frances (Danner) Chmiel.

A mason , Henry worked with concrete for many years and was very meticulous about his craft. Henry worked at various companies throughout Western New York , retiring from the former Cage Construction of Buffalo. Hank married the former Deborah K. Shamy Turman in Denver, Co. February 15, 1986. He enjoyed living at the family homestead that had been a part of the Chmiel family for generations, he enjoyed shooting pool , throwing horseshoes, and playing cribbage with his brothers, he collected antique bottles and Indian relics (a life hobby passed down from his dad) and of course a big fan of the Denver Broncos Football Team .

Survivors include his wife ; Deborah K. Turman -Chmiel , children; Anthony (Jekee) Turman of Waterloo, NY and Angela K. Chmiel of Gowanda . Granddaughter; Trianna Turman. Brothers; Dennis (Edith) Chmiel of Lawtons , Rob (late Lori) Chmiel of Strykersville along with nieces and nephews.

Hank was preceded in death by his father Henry in 2006, his mother Frances in 2023 and his brother Michael in 2019.

Friends may call Thursday November 20, 2025 from 3:00 - 7:00pm at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda where Hank’s funeral will be held Friday November 21, 2025 @ 11:00am .

A pot luck funeral luncheon will be held immediately after Hanks funeral service on Friday at the VFW Post 5007 at 20 Sand Hill Gowanda . Anyone that would like to bring a dish for the luncheon, please contact the family, funeral home or VFW to coordinate. In lieu of flowers , memorial donations can be made to the family to offset medical expenses.

Frederick J. Webber age 88 of Forestville passed away Friday morning October 31, 2025 at home surrounded by family.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY February 10, 1937 the son of Reginal and Irene (Porter) Webber .

Fred was a Lay Minister of the Seventh Adventist Church in Perrysburg where he also was a Church Elder. Fredereck’s ministry was his compassion and his love of God was shared to many throughout western New York. Fred was an outdoorsman, loved family and had a special place in his heart especially for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred married Temple (Drewiega) Kuhn in Hamburg August 18, 1979, Their matrimony created a large combined family unit of love and faith, these teachings remain with the extended Webber and Kuhn families. Whether you consider Fred a husband, father, grandfather,great grandfather, brother ,friend or spiritual leader he will be missed.

Fred retired from Local 210 of Buffalo, his work led him to a variety of construction projects in the area.

Survivors include Temple, his wife of 46 years , children ;Daniel Webber of Gowanda, Cyndi (Tim) Shook of Olivet, MI, Tim (Jade) Webber of Forestville, Todd, (Kristy) Webber of Albion, Temple’s children ; Patrick (Yupha) Kuhn of Fl. , and Greg (Sarah) Kuhn of York ,ME, Fred and Temple were blessed with 28 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Fred is also survived by a sister Diane Emke Webb of South Dayton, in-laws Dorothy Webber (Ed’swife) and Sharon Webber (Bill’s wife), along with several nieces and nephews , including great and great great.

Frederick was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 sons Douglas, Randy and James Webber( James wife Kate survives) Siblings; Dorothy Babbit, Edward Webber, Ilean Nenoff, William Webber, Joanne Gage, Carol Gage, Gordon Webber and Albert Webber.

Dale A. DeCarlo age 74 of Gowanda passed away at the Autumn View Pallative Care Unit in Hamburg Wednesday October 29, 2025.

Dale was born October 12,1951 in Gowanda the son of Joseph and Helen (Mikluscak) DeCarlo.

Dale married Deborah Geil, Deborah passed away April 8, 2018.

Dale retired from the West Valley Nuclear Services Co. where he was a Senior Specialist. He retired in 2017 after 29 yrs of employment. Dale was a proud 50 yr. member of the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Dept. He served as President, Secretary and on the Board for the Department. Dale also was a member of the Gowanda Village Board for 7 years and was a member of the Slovenian Club.

Survivors include two sons ; Anthony DeCarlo of Gowanda and Joseph (Shannon) DeCarlo of Boston, NY along with a grandson Ian DeCarlo. Dale is also survived by his siblings; Bill (Jane) Fedor of Perrysburg, Len (Pam) DeCarlo of New Wilmington, Pa. and Jim (Paula) DeCarlo of Grosse Pointe, MI. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday November 1, 2025 at 10:00am from St Joseph’s RC Church ;East Main St. Gowanda (please assemble at church) . Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery (Zoar Rd.) Gowanda.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Dept; 230 Aldrich St. GowandaNY 14070 or to a local charity of ones choice.
