The problem is they want to control birth instead of surrendering to it. Birth happens on it own terms not the time management theories of others. Keep ya fingers out. Get an initial assessment, yes, but trust the process.

Listen, I'm bout tired of some midwives, doctors and nurses discrediting the role of a doula. Doulas have existed just as long as midwives. There has always been a team of supportive persons caring for a woman giving birth. One is unregulated and one is, for obvious reasons. Being a medical provider does not give you authority to overshadow another role in birth. Especially since a family has HIRED that doula just like they hired the midwife. Key word, HIRED. The birthing space and the woman/birthing person are the AUTHORITY. You maintain safety and provide comfort.

Aint no place for your ego in the birth space.

But folk sure want doulas to handle that early labor and bring a laboring person ready to push.

"You can't tell clients about transferring care or testing" That's out of scope for a doula.

We don't just squeeze hips people. We provide information and options to OUR clients so THEY can make an informed decision about their care.

A lot of providers do not understand the dynamics of doula work. It shows in their bias and behind the screen conversations.

Our clients wanna know alllll the possibilities not just what YOU think is helpful. Let these families decide on what they want or do not want.

AINT NO PLACE FOR EGO IN THE BIRTH SPACE!

Being a medical provider is a role of servitude!!!!!

Serving clients, supporting clients, and providing excellent care. Don't humble youself but put your "bias" to the side and care for the people in the ways they want to be cared for.

It's not that hard. Drop your titles for a moment and remember if no clients are coming to you, you aren't practicing. You work for them!

It’s all fun and games
And sexy breathing exercises for birth
And romantic plans about how he’ll take the baby while you do yoga every day

Until you’re 10 days postpartum
Still bleeding and soaked in breastmilk
Riding a roller coaster of hormones and sleep deprivation
And your lovely partner forgets to pick up a smoothie on his way home from the grocery store

And you lose your sh✨t
Like sobbing into the bathroom sink
Like cursing his mother
Like wondering why you ever procreated with someone capable of such unimaginable selfishness

And then, when the storm has passed, and you’ve had a snack- you realize
Two shaky, raw, sleep deprived humans
Trying to be life rafts for one another
While sinking into the depths of exhaustion and stress
Keeping the tiniest, most fragile, precious being afloat
Is hard AF

We weren’t meant to do this alone
We were not meant to be sent out to sea on a tiny little life boat with no map
Even the most loving, stable partnership can sink under the weight of operating in survival mode while finding your footing as parents

So, if you’re out there, treading water
Buried in laundry and breastmilk
Surviving on freezer pizza and three hours of sleep
Thinking mildly unkind thoughts about the person you chose to parent with
Because he can’t seem to calm the baby or remember your smoothies or grasp the depths of the earth shaking transition you’re navigating
You’re not alone
And it will get easier
One sleepy, shaky day at a time
