HAPI Helping Haitians rise through innovation, collaboration, learning, and leadership. Guiding principles & core beliefs:
1. Everyone has something to contribute
8.

Women and girls in Haiti suffer the threat of violence, endure grinding poverty, die from inadequate healthcare, and confront overwhelming odds to achieve higher education and earn a living wage. At HAPI, women and girls have access to health services, vocational training, and youth programs to empower them to build a healthy, robust foundation from which they can lift themselves out of poverty. D

evelop local leaders who will lead and manage with integrity and creativity to arrive at sustainable solutions for growth for their country.
2. Economic empowerment of women is a key strategy in accomplishing our goals.
3. A healthy economic and social community must be built upon a moral and spiritual foundation.
4. Haiti will benefit from decentralization of resources and the development of rural areas with businesses, education and health services which reduce emigration, particularly of young adults.
5. A strong Haiti must include greater education, social and economic opportunities for women.
6. Equality of relationships (gender, class, cross-cultural) must be restored in order to achieve a healthy, prosperous community.
7. Alleviating poverty is not about filling an empty plate: it is about increasing confidence, education, spirituality, creativity, learning how to resolve conflict, and respect.
9. Do not do for someone what they can do for themselves. Charity that goes beyond short-term relief enables generational
poverty; focus on justice and empowerment to help people 'thrive' not only 'survive.'
10. External 'help' cannot care more about the program or change than the persons directly impacted or the change will not be sustained. It's not about 'us'!

Because of your acts of kindness, many lives are transformed in our community.
We are able to give care to mothers and babies, support young entrepreneurs, teach life-changing skills to the youth, and bring health services to rural homes.

This year however, we have more pregnant women, more youth who needs to learn a new skill. This means your support would help us meet those multiplying needs.

Thanks to HalfMyDAF.com, you can make a gift that could be MATCHED if given before Sept 26!
Organizations empowering women (like HAPI!) have better odds of receiving a match.

My name is Aïsha Marcelin. I am 12 years old, I was born and raised in Mizak, and I will soon be in 7th grade. I am proud to be part of HAPI’s Youth Agro-Economy Program.

When I visited my grandma years ago, I loved watching her rabbits in their hutches. I was so curious and always dreamed of having my own. But back then, I was too young to take care of animals by myself.

In June last year, when my summer vacation started, I was invited to join the Youth Agro-Economy Program. I felt so happy and excited to finally get my own rabbits. I had training for a few days where I learned how to take overall care of the rabbits, clean their hutches, and help them reproduce.

After the training, I received three rabbits (one male and two females) and a nice hutch. My favorite part in taking care of them is going out to find wild grass for them to eat and petting them when I finish studying.

I was so excited knowing that my three rabbits would multiply. The first time one got pregnant, I was delighted. A happy morning, it gave birth to four little bunnies, I was the happiest girl ever. But when I came back from school in the afternoon, I found all the baby rabbits dead. I was heartbroken and confused.

I asked my dad and the program’s mentor for help. They taught me how to clean the hutch better and keep the baby rabbits warm. I followed their advice and now my rabbits stay alive and healthy. I handed 3 rabbits back to the Program so another participant could benefit. Right now, I have six rabbits and one is about to give birth!

Raising the bunnies is beneficial for me and my family. Recently, I was preparing for my first communion. We sold two rabbits and used the money to buy my dress. My dad uses the rabbit dung in his garden to grow plantains, and sometimes we eat the rabbits for a good Sunday meal.

Taking care of my rabbits teaches me to be responsible and brings me closer to my dream of becoming a Nurse.

I am very thankful for this program that makes my dream come true little by little. I
hope other young people like me can have the same chance to learn and also grow through a project like this.

Every woman deserves access to quality care from midwives.

When women have a trusted midwife by their side, they are more likely to choose their birth position, enjoy mobility in labour and have a companion of choice.

Midwifery models of care build communication, trust and partnerships for a healthy labour and birth.

Did you know?
Our maternity is open 24/7; always ready to welcome and support pregnant women in every step of their journey.

Here is a glimpse of a typical night at the Felisane Health Center: our nurses and midwives are wide awake, helping a mother breathe through contractions and checking on another who just gave birth.

My name is Stanley Thévenin. I am 21 years old and I am one of the beneficiaries of HAPI’s Youth Agro-Economy Program.

In 2023, when I was in secondary three, I was invited to join this program. I already had rabbits before, but I did not know how to take proper care of them. Sadly, all my rabbits died. Someone who saw my situation told Mr. Luckner, who manages this project. He came to talk to me and explained that the program helps young people learn rabbit breeding to start their own small businesses. I was very interested, so I joined right away.

Together with other young people, I received training about rabbit breeding and how to manage a small business. After the training, I received three rabbits and a hutch. I was so happy to have rabbits again, and this time I knew how to keep them healthy. When my rabbits reproduced, I gave three back to the program so another young person could benefit too.

Today, I have about 20 rabbits. I even made my hutch larger to have enough space for new rabbits. Since 2023, I mostly sell them. One rabbit sells for 1,500 Haitian gourdes. The biggest profit I made at once was 10,000 gourdes. The money I earn helps me save and cover some of my needs so I depend less on my parents. It also allowed me to register in HAPITech’s computer literacy class, and I plan to join an electricity class soon. However, sales are not always regular. Sometimes I wait up to six months without selling any rabbits, but when God decides to open doors, I get many clients for a long time.

One interesting thing is that I do not only sell my rabbits. I also give some to my friends. HAPI gave me this opportunity, so I want to do the same for others. I always encourage them to join the program too.

I want to thank HAPI for bringing this wonderful project to my community. The biggest lesson I learned is that you can have rabbits, but without good training, profit is not evident.
