⚠️UNPOPULAR OPINION: Eat more to lose weight.

If you are good friends with Google search, then you are familiar with the advice to eat less to lose weight.⬇️

🥤Tea detoxes, 15-day juice cleanses, 1500-calorie diets… you name it! Usually, they don’t promote eating more food.🙅🏾‍♀️

Because weight loss is so commonly associated with eating less, that is exactly what people do without any question. They eat less, BUT not for long.🤫

Would you believe me if I said eating more helps with sustainable weight loss?😲🤔

Yeah, sure. If you want to talk logistics, then burning more calories than what you eat is what needs to happen to lose fat.💁🏾‍♀️

👉🏾BUT that does not mean everyone should be on 1500 calorie diet, and personally, I don’t have my clients focus on calories at all.❌

✅Your body needs a proper balance of CARBS, FATS, + PROTEIN.

These are macronutrients that make up your body and help your body function properly.💯

And if you are JUST focusing on eating as little as possible without passing out, then weight loss is not going to be your only problem.😬🤒🤕😴🤮🤬

Here is my advice: Start eating MORE food, but make sure those foods are whole, unprocessed, and nutrient-dense.

I recommend eating at least 2-3 well balanced meals per day.

General rule of thumb: Your plate should be half full of veggies & leafy greens, 1/4 protein, and 1/4 healthy fats & grains.

😟Do you feel guilty for having drinks with your friends on the weekend?🍻

🍕Do you steer away from eating the foods you love, like ice cream, pizza, and chips because you are on a “diet”?🍦

But then do you binge on the weekend because the week was stressful and you just want to eat what you want and be happy?🤫

🤷🏾‍♀️You tell yourself you’ll start again on Monday.

While you lay in your bed at night, you contemplate on whether you really want to force yourself to eat terribly boring salads for the rest of your life.😦

You can’t imagine life without carbs, carbs, carbs.🤪🥞🍞🍩🍪🍰🥨🥖

Let me tell you somethin’.👇🏾

❌Stop with the restrictive diets. No more!❌

Restrictions not only mess with your metabolism, they mess with your mind.🧠🤮

👉🏾If you are following diet restrictions to lose weight, you are setting unrealistic expectations for yourself, opening up the door for a lot of self-shaming when you “cheat”, and it won’t last.🙅🏾‍♀️

Gonna be vulnerable for a minute…

Ever since I could remember, I’ve never had a problem with pushing myself to physically work hard and push past my limits.🌪

Actually in my mind, if I couldn’t do something, it was a sign that I was a failure, giving up, and not good enough.😔

⏰I was that person who would get up at 4am before school to workout, participate in school sports, then followed that with late night practices for 3+ hours of club sports.🏋🏾‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🏐

☠️How much I trained was unhealthy especially with the lack of sleep I would get, definitely not eating enough, and loads of school work on top of it all.😪📚

It sucked... I suffered the consequences of not listening to my body.

🤕I got injuries from overworking/overuse which forced me to sit out for half of the season.

😴I would sleep through alarms and miss classes from being up until 2am cramming homework.

😱Sleeping past my alarm got so bad to the point where I accidentally crashed into my mom’s brand new 1-month-old Prius because I was rushing and half asleep while trying to drive to an exam I was going to be late to.

I was a mess.🙍🏾‍♀️

In order to be, do, have, and create great things, I believed I needed to push myself over my limits for it.💢

I didn’t want to give myself a break, and I was constantly pouring from an empty cup.🕸

Through those rough experiences, I was able to learn some great lessons that have influenced me to live a healthier and happier lifestyle now.

One of those lessons was slow down and pay attention to self-love.

I thought self-love was cliché, and ultimately I didn’t believe loving myself and being my own rock would give me what I needed.🙄

✨But now I am so grateful that I am consciously striving to work on my own self-love journey and that’s also what I have my clients do inside of Functional Fitness Method.💕

I believe the power of practicing self-love can be easily overlooked and underestimated.🐛

❌I paid zero attention to it for most of my life.

But for being only at the beginning of this new journey, I can tell you it feels so much more fulfilling.✨🙏🏾

The number on the scale is not an accurate depiction of the overall progress you are making.🙅🏾‍♀️

In addition, the scale does NOT account for muscle gain vs fat loss.

🔹Do you ever find yourself stepping on the scale daily?
🔹Have you been eating less in hopes to reach a lower number than last week?
🔹When you find out that you are the same weight, do you feel discouraged or unmotivated?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s time for you to stop obsessing over the scale. Here’s why👇🏾

⚖️Our weight fluctuates on a daily basis and most likely than not, it’s due to several reasons that have nothing to do with gaining fat from eating “too much”.

Here are a few things that can affect your weight fluctuations:

👉🏾Bloating + water retention
👉🏾You are on your period
👉🏾The regulations of your digestion
👉🏾You just consumed a large meal
👉🏾Your daily stress levels
+ much more

That’s why it’s so important to focus on your internal health + how well you fit your clothes on a weekly basis vs focusing on how much you weigh.✨

All in all, the number on the scale does NOT mean you are gaining fat or aren’t progressing.🙌🏾

👉🏾It’s time to this madness of eating less in hopes to see a lower number on the square object you step on each morning!

Self-care can oftentimes be so easily neglected because worry, stress, fears, and anxiety of the past+future distract us from being present and unfortunately, we end up taking things for granted in return.

💕This is just a little reminder for you to remember not to take life too seriously. Be light & playful. 💕

✨Prioritize self-care not only on the weekends, but every day.✨

🌻Take care of yourself, so you can fully show up for yourself, others, and life.🌻

Why is the diet industry a $70 billion industry?💰

👉🏾Because sustainability is a problem.

It’s not hard to lose weight, and you’ve probably done it once or twice or several times before.🤷🏾‍♀️

But only to gain it all back and face the dilemma of finding the next new thing that will help you lose it for good.⚡️

🔥Your weight loss is not sustainable because your health + fitness routines are not sustainable.

Take a look at the eating habits you are trying to instill in yourself.👀

Going to the gym regularly, but still not seeing results?

If so, I have TWO recommendations for you!

🔥FIRST 👉🏾 Challenge yourself more. I know it can be intimidating to try something new or pick up heavier weights, but if you are continually doing the same workout everyday, your muscles will adapt to that workout. 💪🏾 I am a big advocate for lifting weights, and I used to be scared of lifting heavier because I didn’t want to hurt myself. Lift heavy ladies, yes you CAN do it! 🎉 Just make sure you are practicing good form always. Try adding an extra 5-10lbs next time you squat and try switching up your sets & reps. Also, throw in new movements to your routine to promote muscle confusion. 💫Muscle confusion will help you build different muscles, burn more calories, and prevent injuries. It will also help you avoid hitting a plateau in your strength training cycles.

🔥SECOND 👉🏾 Spend less time in the gym and more in the kitchen. I cannot stress enough how big of a role nutrition plays! 🥗You can work out all you want, but if you are looking to lose fat and build muscle, you need to be aware of what you are eating. Eating right not only helps optimize your results in the gym, it helps you recover, feel mentally alert, focused, and happy throughout the day. ☺️💗I recommend starting by focusing on eating wholesome, unprocessed, nutrient-dense foods 80% of the time. The other 20% enjoy yourself. 🥳 You should log your food intake in a journal or I personally like using the MyFitnessPal app (super user friendly). This will help you get to know your eating patterns. Make sure you are getting it all: Carbs, Fats, Proteins, Fiber! No cutting out food groups.🙅🏾‍♀️

Oh, hey there! 🙃 It’s been a minute since I’ve introduced myself and there are some new faces here, so lemme tell ya a bit about me 👇🏾

My name is Kelsey, and I am a certified CrossFit Level One Trainer. I’ve coached group fitness 🏋🏾‍♀️ and I’m in my third year of concierge in-home personal training.

Earlier this year, I transitioned my fitness coaching business to online 💻📱 and built an advanced program to help busy women professionals and entrepreneurs with their nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle.💫

But if ya really knew me, you’d know…

I LOVE dogs🐾🐶, especially my rescued labs, Carter & Atlantis and my nephew Kronos who is a rescued blue pitty. It is very rare I call them by those names; all 3 of them have several nicknames each😜. I grew up playing a few sports and ran 🏃🏽‍♀️competitively, but I have a special love for volleyball🏐💕. In my free time, you can find me either on a sand court🏖 (in the summer) or an indoor court (in the winter) playing pick-up with friends. I’m Japanese 🇯🇵 and Mauritian 🇲🇺, and I’ve in Michigan my whole life. My inner island girl 🧜🏽‍♀️🌊🗾 loves anything involving water; paddle boarding, swimming, scuba diving, + free diving. I enjoy lifting things and getting a good sweat in.💦

✨I believe we deserve better nutrition education and that gym classes should teach kids how to lift barbells properly and how important functional fitness is.

✨My purpose is to help women create sustainable health and fitness habits that allow them to take ownership of their life, spend more time feeling happy + confident and less time feeling stressed + worried.

But before we go any further, real talk… Most fitness coaches would have you believe that you can eat whatever you want as long as you hit your macros, do cardio HIIT workouts every day of the week, and eat kale all day everyday.
